On another note, the troll (or whatever they are) pointed out that our bullpen blew a few games in the past couple of weeks. However, our bullpen has blown less leads all season than the Mets pen did in just August alone.

Phil, I’m with you 100%. Do you also question Smith’s claim that he’s a Phils fan? Someone who can’t even spell Cole Hamels’ name right doesn’t seem like someone who knows a lot about their starting rotation, which he was quick to bash. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s just a “frontrunner” who only pays attention when they’re doing well, I don’t know.

Myers isn’t Cy Young good but he’s everything you want from your number 2 with plus stuff. Cole’s every bit an ace and his numbers this year are incredible for a guy that’s had to endure a lot, he’s not dominanting but nor way Maddux when he might as well have been called Cy Maddux.

I’d like to see Myers and Blanton switched up but we have the prototypical rotation now with an ace, a guy with plus stuff, an inning eater, solid veteran and a guy in the 5 whole who won’t implode often and will make his starts. This is a rotation superior to most that hasn’t come at the cost of the offense. Sure Arizona and Milwaukee are stacked but they’ve paid a higher price.

Here’s what all of you people calling me delusional are saying. Myers is suspect and he gives up a lot of hits. Do you watch the hits he gives up? They’re little blooper singles or hits down the middle. Noone is hitting him hard. He is pitching to contact to keep his pitch count down. If he gets into a big situation with runners on he merely goes into k mode and strikes them out. Very Brandon Webb like of him. Hamels is an ace. Moyer is solid. Blanton has been a good #4 since getting here. Kendrick is a good #5. Our rotation is great, and for those of you who don’t see it, or are saying it isn’t because of remembering how Myers pitched the 1st half of the season, then obviously you shouldn’t be watching the Phillies. Myers is the 2nd best starter in the NL in the month of August only next to CC Sabathia who has been just ridiculous since coming to the NL. If we’re comparing Myers to CC and Webb then obviously he is doing something right. If Myers can pitch like this next year then mark my words he’ll be in cy young talks.

I am not negative, I am a realist. I hope this team wins, and I root for them every game. I just don’t see it even remotely possible that the Phillies win in the first round. They can’t hit good pitching(especially lefties), and that is what you see in the playoffs.

For all you hardcore homers out there, open your eyes and see what this team is – a fundamentally flawed ball club that can’t score without the homerun. take off your blinders and turn off your tunnel-vision because all you guys can see is the one game every four or five games when the Phillies hit 4 homeruns and score 8 runs. You have to take notice to the games in between where they score 0, 1, 2 runs and can’t advance runners past second base.

By the way, to comment on the rotation – this rotation is decent to good. Hamels is a stud, when he wants to be; Moyer is a cerebral assassin, and drives hitters crazy with his location on his slop fastball; Myers is a headcase, but has been pitching well – hopefully he can continue to keep runners off the scoreboard with the amount of hits he has been giving up; Blanton was a nice addition, a huge upgrade to Eaton, but he is no Sabathia; Kendrick keeps you in the game, given you can scrape together 5+ runs. The top 3-4 pitchers are definitely good enough to win in the playoffs if they can get run support. The bullpen is nice, hopefully they can hold together long enough to win the division.

The Mets do have a better rotation, even with Maine hurt, but they better hope to throw complete games every night or their bullpen will blow most games.

i definitely wouldn’t call the rotation great, but it’s good. it’s been very good, borderline great this season, but overall i’d say it’s above average, but not on par with the best in the majors. still, a team is the sum of it’s parts, and i like the overall product of this team a lot. hell, i’ve liked them ever since they traded abreu and handed the team over to the younger guys. and this year is the best team they’ve had since ’93, so let’s see how far they can go.

No – I’m just not delusional like you. Our rotation is good, I’ll agree to that at most. Great? – Hardly. If Kendrick didn’t benefit from 7 runs per start in run support in the first half, he’d have maybe 5, maybe 6, 7 at most wins by now. I hope you really don’t think THAT highly of Blanton and Myers. Hammels is an ace as I said, and Moyer has been a pleasant surprise – clearly having a career year. God knows where that came from.

Even with Maine hurt, the Mets have a better starting rotation than us. There’s something wrong with you if you can’t see that.

Now, do we have a better bullpen than them? – of course. Is our offense better? Well, I’d say no right now, though of course – it all remains to be seen.

No, Myers is fixed. He has the ability to keep poise in great situations. You can say Pelfrey and Ollie are pitching over their heads too. Maine is injured. You really have no idea what you’re talking about at all. You’re either a Mets fan or you’re not a real Phillies fan. Our rotation is great.

Okay Phil. Look – our rotation is anything but great. We have an ace, a 75 year old playing out of his mind (a good thing), and then three huge question marks. Kendrick basically blows, I don’t trust Blanton, and one day all those baserunners that Myers allows are eventually going to score.

smith, at the end of the season it’s the overall record that counts, not what you did before or after june. teams get hot and cold over the course of a season as long as baseball’s. it happens, it all levels out by the end of the season. the mets are ONE GAME ahead of the phillies at this point in the season. that’s what counts, not who has done what since when, but who is where in the standings. if the phillies continue to stay right there with them, and finish the season strong, like they usually do, then they’ll be in the playoffs. from there on out, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen.

also, just because some fans around here start to freak out when the team loses, some stay realistic. and the realistic outlook on this team is that being 13 games over .500 at this point in the year is a damn fine place to be. taking a pessimistic outlook on the reigning division champs who are a half game out of first isn’t realistic, it’s just being negative for the sake of it.

did any one watch the phillies offense last year in the playoffs. They are not clutch whatsoever. They rely to much on the homerun and try to hit one at every at bat. They will freeze up and choke if they make the playoffs just like last year.
