Why does everyone want to get rid of Howard? His defense has been pretty horrendous, but really, how many games has his defense lost? How many games has his bat either won or helped to win?

I’m all for some changes in Howard’s game…making defenses play him honestly rather than letting them beat him with the shift, working w/ Milt or whomever to develop a 2-strike, contact-hitting swing to cut down on strikeouts, etc. But, why trade him? He’s arguably the 3rd or 4th best player on this team, 2nd or 3rd best position player.

The only reason to move him would be if someone else valued him more highly than we do. If we know he hits 130-150 RBIs but strikes out 180-200 times per season, so does everyone else? I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he’s a “clubhouse cancer” other than his nodding with Jimmy’s comments last night…which doesn’t say much, really. He’s a competitor. There’s no asymmetry of information that would allow us to get any more for him in a trade than from him in a hold. He’s fun to watch. If everyone is really that concerned with his strikeouts, the alternative would be to move him down the order a spot or two as to not kill rallies…not trade him.

We really do have the most promising young core of players here in Philly (Utley, Howard, Hamels), and any success in the future is going to come from those three plus any additions/callups the team makes. I believe a 2010 lineup consisting of Utley, Howard, Marson, Donald, and Victorino is a strong nucleus.

Maybe Jimmy Rollins has a point. Look at how you guys are reacting. You expect so much from a game. Players do not want to play for fans like that. I was recently talking to my good buddy, Alf, and he agreed. Rollins statements, the media’s perception of Philly and the lack of free agents in Philly are not a coincidence. Put simply, Philadelphia is not a fun place to play.

The Phillies should trade Jimmy in the off-season …. if he does not want to be here then get rid of him like the sox’s did with Manny. I do not boo players who give me there best effort every time they show up to the ball park but Jimmy has not done that this year.

what makes you think Howard wants A-Rod money? Howard is pretty stuipd if he thinks anyone will pay him A-Rod money considering A-Rod bats over 300, steals and runs the bases very well, plays much better def then Ryan … oh yes and does not strike out over 200 times a year … Howard hits HR that is it

exactly. thats why the phillies wont trade howard. they know that itll take him a afew year,s but by the time hes a free agent hell realize he wont be able get A-rod money. so by then hell either be ready to negotiate or esaier to move.

Nobody is going to pay Howard the kind of money he wants though.. if you and I can clearly see that Tex is a much better all-around player than Ryan Howard.. so can every team in baseball…

I’m willing to bet that Tex gets something around what Soriano got.. 8 years, and $136.

Tex has a slightly higher career avg.. almost as many RBIs in about 300 fewer games.. and is a sure thing GoldGlove at firstbase.. and I think Boras is his agent.. he’ll get BANK

phil…if the phillies called and offered rollins and even mentioned a name that sounded like longoria, id immediately hang up the phone. i think taht would lefitimately set their franchise back 10 years. id take tex over howard for sure. hes like 27 and hes a monster. he plays good defense…it would be ballsy for sure.

Yes there is. Howard wants A-Rod money. Tex you can get for 7 years $100,000,000. That’s a lot less than what Howard wants.
