Phils fans are unappreciatives sure but we demand a blue collar team and those guys becomes heroes, those who showboat should be prepared to take constant hounding by the fans. Cards fans have been hailed as the benchmark for good fans and you know what… You look down that line-up and you have guys who work for their success on the diamond, even Pujols who has as much talent as anyone in the game. The Phils roster isn’t stocked with guys giving their all to be ball players, their ballplayers expecting success without putting in the work.

Nowadays, J-Roll has insulted me and pissed me off a bit. It doesn’t have anything to do with winning, just my perception as a fan.

Personally, I’ve chilled out a bit more about this whole mess, and instead think Rollins should follow the footsteps of Chase. Just shut the hell up and play. Do your talking on the field, not on “Best Damn Sports Show Period.”

why doesn’t somebody criticize tampa? best record in baseball and for a crucial series with the angels they don’t attract as many fans in the whole series as the phillies do in any regular game.

Back to the thread itself, I completely agree. Honestly, Philly fans are very passionate, and they aren’t like St. Louis, but I’ve been to several yankees games, and I’ll tell you, the similarity is staggering. In fact, every different baseball game I’ve gone to has seem just like a game at CBP. The whole “tough philly” thing is extremely fabricated in my mind.

To be honest, I don’t even know where this came from. J-Roll was a fan favorite, even this year, where he hasn’t been nearly as good. What’s his problem? It seems to me for every idiot fan booing a player, there’s a wolf pack guy, or one of the Howard Phans. What about everyone on this board? Are we frontrunners? We live and die by this team. I spend so much time surfing these philly sports boards. How can J-Roll expect to call me a fairweather fan and me NOT to get angry at him for it? It trivializes every time I sit down to watch a game.

It pisses me off because last year I loved this team. Now J-Roll is giving me every reason to hate it.

As for the New York vs. Philly fans, I am of two minds. Nobody can defend Yankees fans because they are the second biggest D-Bags in the sports fan world (next to Bhastin fans that keep popping up like poison ivy, if Red Sox nation was a real country it would be Canada, overly full of itself and mostly important because of the nation to the south). Back to Yankees fans, if you see someone wearing a Yankees cap, its quite likely they can tell you the name of less than 10 players in all of baseball, most of whom would play on the Yankees. They win the ignorance gold metal. Furthermore, in addition to being ignorant of baseball, the average Yankees fan is a douche. He is either a guido from Long Island, or a Guido from Jersey, or a Guido from some other locale, or some wannabe ghetto dbag who has never been to a game, or a jewish guy with a blowout and a beater trying desperately to look like a guido (minus the big gold star of david chain), or some other variety of generic NYC douche. I can’t even believe I hate Boston fans more than Yankees fans, if you had told me that 5 years ago I wouldn’t have believed you.

Mets fans, especially younger ones, have a few things going for them that make them less annoying then the average big market baseball fan. #1 (this is the biggest point), most of them have made the conscious choice not to be Yankees fans. Think about this for a second, most baseball fans will either be a fan of the team who plays in their area, or a fan of one of the teams they could watch on TV, or a fan of a team they jumped on the bandwagon of back when they were good. I went to high school in the early 2000′s in a Philly suburb, but we had a bunch of Yankees fans there because the Yankees won in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and were in the playoffs every damn year. We also had a lot of Braves fans. Mets fans have chosen not to be Yankees fans. Their team hasn’t won a championship since 1986, which is longer then most of the Mets fans I know have been alive. #2 The average Mets fan is not a rich New Yorker, they are from Queens or Brooklyn. They have a blue collar base, like the Phillies. They have their share of Guidos, but not to the exclusion of other types. For that matter, a lot of Philly fans are Guidos to, though not as large a percentage of them as Mets fans. #3 is that the average Mets fan has an average baseball IQ. He doesn’t follow the team as obsessively as a Phillies fan (nobody does), and this makes him prone to over-optimism when his team is doing well (case in point, all the idiot mets fans posting about how great their team is ignoring the extremely weak pitching they are going to see down the stretch from every pitcher not named Schoeneweis, Santana, Perez, or Pelfrey.) On the other hand, the average Mets fan does not have ignorance equivalent to the average Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Giants, or Braves fan. Also, he exists and is not as rare as the ivory billed woodpecker (Rays, Marlins, Pirates, Nationals, Royals, Orioles, A’s, etc.) I would say the tolerability and annoyingness of the Mets fan rank right in the middle between Cleveland and the White Sox.
