Brad Lidge gets my respect for he was basically untouchable and even deserves Cy Young for in my opinion.I’ll say this as a Mets fan…..If Jerry Manuel wins manager of the year,than Lou Piniella better carry a hacksaw and a shotgun and kill those who snubbed him.

My laptop broke so I haven’t been on much, but I have a chance to use a computer right now so I have to post this irrelevant statistic for all of the Phillies fans because I’m sure you will appreciate it.

I’m a civil engineer major so I’m good with numbers. My friend Katie who is a Mets fan pondered to herself how much Pedro made per pitch in a Mets jersey. Using estimations with his $53,000,000 4 year contract along with his roughly 500 innings pitched I just rounded to $50,000,000 and 500 innings. He made $100,000 per inning pitched and I estimated he threw 20 pitches per inning. That brings us to Pedro earning $5,000 per pitch threw as a Met. I figured you’d all appreciate that. Doing the same formula with Hamels I estimate that Hamels has made $162.50 per pitch as a Phillie.

if the other manuel (jerry) wins manager of the year the cholly should get manager of the decade, jerry is as worthless as his replaced counterpart willie randolph.
as for the castro/stairs deal, stairs gives us help RIGHT NOW as opposed to fabio (romance novel) castro rotting in our farm.

I have mixed feelings for that decision nate. I like happ and he seems like he could be solid in the playoffs if he plays anything like he did in the regular season. Shame for Rudy though, hes cold as ice. i was at a game in mid july where he had the bases loaded no outs, and got a double play out at home and first, and then a strikeout. Cold as ice.

Castro stunk it up in Philly. We definitly got over on that trade. Stairs isn’t that bad at all. He’s a good power hitter off the bench. Castro is…Well…terrible. He has a strong arm, with NO control. We just didnt have any reason for him here. I hope Toronto turns him into a solid pitcher, and he actually climbs out of the minors

Fabio Castro should have just intentionally walked the batters every time they came to the plate, instead of mixing in random strikes…. he sucked.. He’s a dude with Home Run potential that you can use instead of just counting on Greg Dobbs all the time… good move to add Stairs, I think.. but not significant enough that it really matters one way or the other.

Last year for the Phillies, Castro walked 13 guys in 12.0 Innings… I’m alright with letting him head North, Eh.

Lidge didn’t need Comeback Player of the Year though…thats for players who had horrible years or got injured…last year he was still pretty decent…His WHIP is more or less the same as this year and his ERA was 3.36. 19 saves out of 27 opps…and some of those opps werent even that…they were 8th inning roles when Dan Wheeler was closing…

Call me crazy, but I agree with Rob Neyer, Lidge is more of an MVP candidate than Cy Young. If you compare Lidge to the rest of the closers in the NL he is head and shoulders above…not to mention if not for Lidge this team prob doesnt win the division…They said over the weekend if baseball games ended after 7 the Phillies would have been like 8 games behind the Mets…thats how valuable Lidge was to the Phillies.

Agreed MS, I was ok with giving up our star Minor League 2nd baseman for Joe Blanton, regardless of how just-satisfactory Blanton was. I mean, we already have a pereneial all-star locked up for the next 5 years, no need for the other guy to wait in the minors. But giving up castro for matt stairs seemed like a rip off. Matt stairs isn’t even that good.

I know this is a little off-topic, but I feel it’s worth mentioning that MLB.com has Jerry Manuel as the front-runner for manager of the year. That would be a huge shock. Sure they won under him but he didn’t get them into october. I’m not saying Charlie should get it either, but come on.

Congrats to Lidge. Also, congrats to Cliff Lee, both are hardworking ball players and have earned it.

Georgie, I can’t say I agree he should get the Cy Young Award. The value of relievers are not as highly regarded as the value of starting pitchers. I’m not a huge fan of the save stat either. I’m sure it is a lot of pressure to come in the 9th and finish off a team, but if a guy can still give up 2 runs and get a “save,” well you see where I’m going, this argument has happened before. But look at it this way, he was perfect in saves, but didn’t even lead the league in saves. K-Rod got 62 saves this year, the nationals didn’t even have that many wins. A closer can onyl be as good, in terms of their defining stat, as the team around him.

Anyways, if He had an Eric Gagne style year, and lead the league in saves, AND was perfect in saves, I would say he would win the cy young. But he wasn’t. Will he get votes, absolulty. Will he finish in the top 5, I don’t doubt it.
