Burrell Hits 250-Homer Plateau

Last night’s sixth-inning, go-ahead home run by Pat Burrell was the 250th of his career.

Burrell could join the 500 club, but at age 40 (at his current rate). The 250 homers has Burrell 191st on the career home run list. One more and he ties Hall of Famer Robin Yount. Two more and he ties non-Hall of Famer Bret Boone. Three more and he ties teammate Matt Stairs.

On the active list, Burrell ranks 42nd. The consistent Burrell has hit 30 home runs four times in his career, scraping that mark twice (29 in 2001, 27 in 2005). He only hit under 20 home runs once, his rookie season, when he played 111 games.

Congratulations, Pat.

Burrell is not joining the 500 mark. Definitely 400. If Burrell got the 500 mark that would make him a future HOFer. He isn’t a future HOFer.

its crazy to think, but there is a real shot at 500 for burrell if he can stay consistent. maybe if he becomes a DH in the AL.

I think Burrell will struggle to get to 400. If he plays another 6 years he would have to hit 25 homers a season, and I don’t think he will last another 6 years, not in the NL at least.

500 homeruns doesn’t automatically make you a hall of famer anymore.

pat will get to 400 no problem. 500 i’m not so sure. and hopefully he keeps hitting them in a phillies uniform.

Congrats to Pat. No way he’ll hit 500 though. 400 might even be a stretch I think. I wish him luck though. He really is a good guy it seems.

Pat won’t come near 500.. I can’t believe he’s only at 250 actually. look at a 25 year old in David Wright who is already at like half of that..

what does david wright have to do with anything? pat has hit homeruns at a consistent pace his whole career, why would that stop now that he’s reached 250?

Pat SHOULD finish close to 400, if not a few more. The way I see it he has 3 good seasons left(with another team) at around 25-30 homers/year, and then 3-4 okay seasons left at 20-25 homers/year.

I would let him go after the year, and it has nothing to do with him personally. He has been a decent player while he’s been here, although I would say he has underachieved after being a number one overall pick. I would prefer to have a contact bat in his spot. Basically I am looking for someone with good speed and defensive skills, who is a little more consistent throughout the season, even if the power numbers are less.
