It’s my understanding that baseball coaches wear team uniforms because they’re technically allowed to play in games. Anyone know if that would require them to be on the official 25 man roster, or could Moyer be signed as pitching coach, not take up a roster spot and still go out there every fifth game? I doubt it, but that would be frickin’ awesome.

Blanton is ok now. I don’t think we gave him enough credit for his last start: 7 innings, 3 ER, 5 hits
Pretty damn good… if he can keep this going for the rest of the season, we have a pretty decent No.4/No.5 pitcher

Hey, I like Geoff’s contributions. I like the fact that he types from the gut without filtering it through the “think-it-all-the-way-through” apparatus.

On a serious note, this Blanton news is a problem. Why didn’t the team REST the guy if the guy was trying to play hurt? We have JA Happ in the wings. I’m not saying he’s Doc Gooden circa 1985, but we’ve all pointed out that Happ did a nice job in his two starts and deserved at least one (or even a couple) more.

This smells of Gillick’s feces-soaked fingers. Bring in a journeyman innings eater, and then hide/cover-up an injury to the guy? It’s almost like Gillick was going to trot Blanton out there every five days whether he was any good or not — whether he was healthy or not — because Blanton was the pickup he made. Atrocious.

And I’m wary of the medical staff/trainers too. We all should be in the aftermath of “Joe Borowski isn’t healthy enough to pass a physical for the ’07 season, but Freddie Garcia is just fine.”

I agree with you 100% christopher. I wonder if we are lucky enough to win the East again we will see Geoff in the background pouring champagne all over JRoll, Vic, Howard, Blanton and all the others he’s bashed. He sounds so important!

don’t forget about how geoff knew personally how immature victorino was up until charlie “pulled him aside” and talked to him. it was nice of geoff to be there and help that situation go down. i also like how nobody has talked about trading howard except for him, and now that howard is smacking the laces off the ball again, geoff is constantly pointing out that we shouldn’t trade howard in his comments… so he’s basically just talking to himself, trying to convince himself not to trade howard.

in all honesty he’s so over the top you can’t help but laugh at this point and move on.

haven’t you been saying all year that you know for a fact they aren’t bringing anyone in? Now you want them to get rid of perhaps the most consistent pitcher all year, to make him your pitching coach…eventhough the pitching coach has done a GREAT job this year??

and the getting rid of Rollins part, for “anything”.. or even to get nothing in return.. would definitely be a smart baseball move…

as soon as they get rid of rich dubee, the trainers, and jimmy rollins. and geoff jenkins, and so taguchi. and either coste or ruiz. not ryan howard, maybe let pat burrell go. werth, victorino, utley feliz stay. if you have to, you can actually just release j-roll. just pay him to go away in the offseason, matt morris him. sign some starting pitching and bringin jamie moyer to replace rich dubee as the pitching coach. and then trade jimmy rollins again just to make sure that you did it.

phils are 7-4 in blanton’s starts, so tendinitis or no, i don’t think the trainers blew too many games for the phils there. glad big joe is feeling better now though.

Seriously, Rich Dubee should get fired, because the pitchers have been AWESOME this year… and ROLLINS??… he sucks.. so what if he is hitting the cover of the ball and carrying this team when we need him to..

Next time you go into the clubhouse before and after games, to get to see the way things are.. how Rollins acts, and how the players all respond to him.. PLEASE BRING ME ALONG TOO!!! I’d love to see that firsthand the way you must get to. otherwise, you wouldn’t have any idea what you’re talking about, so I know that you must get in there all the time

the trainers not resting blanton may have cost us a few games. fortunately the team is in a decent position right now, but it couldve cost them the season.

those trainers man, im telling you. and i wouldnt let rich dubee anywhere near my pitchers. its rich dubee and the trainers, and that clubhouse cancer jimmy rollins.

This actually explains a lot. Blanton wasn’t great in Oakland this year, but that stretch of starts he had for the Phils was downright putrid. Sunday’s start against Milwaukee was much closer to the Joe Blanton we were promised: 7 innings, a few hits and a couple of homers, but only 2 walks and 3 runs surrendered. I’ll gladly take that every time out.
