Eyre Wants To Be A Phillie In 2009

Scott Lauber spoke with Scott Eyre, who said he’d like to come back to the Phillies and sign a one-year deal, even.
Eyre is worth $3.8M this season, and has a 1.64 ERA in 14 appearances with the Phils.
Ken Mandel also reported this, with Eyre saying “I’d be happy with that” when asked about a one-year deal. His piece on Eyre is a nice, quick profile of how much fun he has being in the game.
I’d absolutely sign him to a one-year deal, making him the No. 2 lefty in the bullpen with JC Romero for 2009. The Phils don’t have a real bullpen lefty ready to go in the farm system, and any other option would be too costly. Plus, seeing as Eyre seems to be such a radiant personality, it makes all the sense in the world to hang onto him.

Eyre was in Lou Pinella’s doghouse over in Chicago and has done a good job for the Phillies since coming over.

I wish they loved one year deals when they were negotiating with Eaton.
What organization doesn’t love one year deals? The player has to prove himself during the season.
Also, they ponied up and signed Romero to a 3 year deal after he pitched well for 2 months last year.

Im ok with bringing him back for a year. thatd be a great signing since he WANTS a one year deal! a no brainer to me. low risk, high reward move there…plus castro is gone so there is no young lefty near mlb-ready for the bullpen…and no, happ is not a reliever.

I think there are about 43 fans at the Nationals game tonight. Talk about a franchise going nowhere-they didn’t even sign their first round pick this year!

They will sign pitchers like romero all day at three million or less, They won’t come up with the money to sign a cc or sheets or burnett. And it’s what this team needs.

Dallas fans, despite being a little slow and generally unclean, booed her. As a Philly resident, I approve.

it sounds like they let Jessica Simpson do the anthem-that’s a conflict of interest!!

bring him back . . . he’d be cheap, and we won’t have to bitch about needing another lefty in the pen next year.

@ Manny:
I am enjoying this more and more as the night progresses. I can almost hear NY’s collective asshole tightening as their beloved team’s lead teeters on the brink.

Just a quick comment ..when we were 4 down in both the division and the wildcard…and some people thought we were done…did they expect us to just shrivel up and die or what?

Looking at the standings, Florida isn’t dead yet… They are 5.5 games behind in the Wild Card race… They could think that by winning the two series against the Phillies, they could have a shot at the playoffs… I hope they start losing soon! They are a pretty good team…

mikemike, the guy comes out and SAYS he wants to sign a one year deal, flat out says he doesn’t know if he still wants to pitch past next season… and you still bitch about how the organization is cheap and will only sign him for one year. are you kidding me?!? get the stick out of your ass and appreciate ANYTHING else about baseball for one day of your life other than how much you hate the phillies’ ownership.

Christopler people like you keep us from winning. You are the reason we are not going after the top pitchers we need. The front office knows all they have to do is be competative and you will go to the game. You are a loser just like the owners are ,Nice going are you a cousin of giles or montgomery.

Their defense gave up 41 points, thats simply not what a professional football team does. The offense played well, but as soon as they gave up the final touchdown I knew the game was over because thats too many points to give up to expect a victory. The defensive line was getting blown clean off the line of scrimmage all night. Desean Jackson needs to grow up and stop being a retard, it took away from the plays he did make.
Brian Westbrook is still their whole team. When McNabb needed his recievers to be open late in the game in crunch time guess what? theyre all covered, they cant get open….isnt that familiiar?
i always thought this team would be great if they committed to running the ball a lot like the steelers. the offensive line is a run blocking line that doesnt run enough. theyre not going to win this week. the steelers will control the clock for 60 percent of the game.

Speaking as a Steelers fan (my dad’s from the area), let me assure you that the steelers do not have the game in the bag. Roethlisburger may or may not still be injured, and their offensive line is questionable. Unfortunately, I’ve always thought that the key to beating the Steelers defense is good WR’s and I’m not sure the Steelers can do that.

I lived in Pittsburgh for 6 years, watched them win a superbowl. their offensive line is a run blocking offensive line as well. hurt or not, ben is at his best when he throws 20 or fewer passes. the steelers will pound willie parker and rashard mendenhall down the eagles throat. the rams exposed the linebackers with a tight end attack late in week 1′s game. dallas exposed that with witten down th emiddle of the field. just running all over the linebackers and dawkins with that. the steelers will try to exploit that as well with heath miller. we have seen this for years now, the eagles cannot deal with decent to good tight ends.
