Your gameday beer: Cheating because this is a January-March seasonal, but Buzzsaw Brown Ale fromthe Deschutes Brewing Co. is our beer choice today. Nutty like most browns, it froths well and goes down with class. Browns are good in the beginning of spring, but also in the middle of fall. So it’s not unlikely to go brown today. Eat a barbecue chicken sandwich with this offering.
Go Phillies!

welp. Maybe this will wake the Fightin’s up and they will sweep the Brewers. Outlook is pretty bleak if they don’t.

Don’t worry, there’s still a chance for you guys. The Mets might go 5-12 over their last 17 like they did last year.

I thought you guys were supposed to have the best bullpen in the NL or something? Even the Mets bullpen has done better than this! HA! Don’t count the fish out. They are still hungry!

What is it with the Marlins and killing our playoff hopes in September yearly?

Well it might be time for the Phils to gracely conceed the division and give some of the kids some playing time. Have to give it to the Mets, they’ve had it far worse than the Phils have for much of the season but there at the top no-one can be blamed but the players, the coaches and the front office if they genuinely feel they should have won.

Three runs is not going to get it done most nights. Brewers won, and there’s a good chance the Mets will beat the Nats tonight, leaving us 4 back in the loss column to both teams.
This bullpen is taxed, and I don’t know why – The starters are top 5 in innings pitched, and Myers went 7 1/3 today in another solid outing.
Am I blowing this out of proportion, or is Romero nothing more that a situational lefty?

Stick a fork in em.
The bullpen is falling apart, both Durbin and Romero have been bad lately.

durbin has been just as bad lately, inherited runners score every time he comes in

I agree with Choke Utley. I wouldn’t be surprised if Burell set a major league record for worst BA with runners in scoring position.
Anyway, the season is not over. Winning the division doesn’t seem likely, but the Phils need to play every game like their lives depend on it. Esp with the 4 against the Brewers coming up.

Don’t worry the Mets will fold, the Brewers will get swept this weekend and gas will drop to $2 a gallon.

I just don’t see it happening, even if we start to play better. That Mets team is not going to collapse this year. They are a different team.
Go Eagles.

I hate to say it but it is really over, there is no real chance with how the mets have played. The wild card looks like it would be the way to go but with the way we have played who the hell knows and can we really see a somewhat consistant phillies team?

I just wish that fight and excitement was there and they just don’t have it. It just feels like they’re going through the motions. Since the All Star Break, they just haven’t had it….

In fairness this was over a while ago but it took the Mets a long while to take advantage of the Phillies inept play over an extended period. Dan your right we’ll bitch and moan about the pitching but the reality is the offense wasted too many games and it’s natural for your pitching to hit a wall, other teams jump on our mistakes but we rarely this season have been able to capitalise on theirs.

Mets won’t fold. They held the Phillies in check this year. That is the difference. We couldn’t dominate them like we did last September. Won’t it be our luck, Mets take it all. I’m done.

Interesting quote from Jimmy today in a pre-game interview. Final question of the interview: “Any message for the Mets?” Jimmy: “Oh no, we’re done with them. If they’re not there in October with us, we’ll just see them in 2009.”
This man’s arrogance is exactly the sort of thing that cost the Mets the division last season. I really don’t like him right now. I know he’s been good lately, but overall he has had a bad year, and he is unreasonably cocky.

The offense has cost the Phils dearly this year. J-Ro, Howard, Utley, Victorino, Burrell, Coste, Ruiz, on and on it goes. No clutch or situational hitting at all.
Poor coaching but the bottom line it’s the players who are too blame for this mess. Guess they just got knocked off their high horse.

I didn’t want to look forward to 2009 until 2008 was over, but this Front Office has got to get off their high horse and do something.

Unless the Phillies sweep the Brewers, which won’t happen since Moyer will be pitching on 3 days rest, the season is over.

The season is not over, but realistically there is like a 3% chance the phillies make the playoffs.
Next year I hope to see a drastically different team – shop Howard for some pitching help; let Burrell go and add a contact bat in the outfield; drop the dead weight(Jenkins, Taguchi, Eaton, etc.); do something about the catching situation.
