Headline: Take care of business in the capital
The Major Players: Chase Utley, Kyle Kendrick, Tim Redding, Ryan Madson
The Venue: Nationals Park, Washington D.C.
The Number: 1 game behind (Mets)
Jayson Werth and Co. put together a nice win to split a crucial four-game set with the Cubs. Now it’s onto Washington for a three-gamer with the Nationals, whom the Phils have beaten soundly much of the season (8-4). And if you’re watching this Labor Day spectacular, look for Phillies Nation to be covering major ground at Nationals Park. Today is our annual bus trip to our Nation’s Capital. As you read this sentence, we’re outside Nationals Park enjoying some brews, good food and a lot of good friends.
Mad River: With Chad Durbin going two innings yesterday, and Kendrick not one to go deep into games, Ryan Madson might see some time today. Despite recent struggles, 12 of his last 14 appearances have been scoreless.
Werth The Playing Time: Jayson Werth had a 7-for-13 series in Chicago. His 2008 numbers: 21 HR, 56 RBI, .529 SLG. All career bests.
The Redd Line: These guys have faced Redding a lot this season. Chase Utley: 5-for-10. Ryan Howard: 1-for-10. Shane Victorino: 4-for-11. Jimmy Rollins: 1-for-12. Pat Burrell: 2-for-10. Pedro Feliz: 1-for-7.
Not The Light! Part IV!: The Phillies are 18-22 in daytime.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (11-7) 4.83 ERA
Nationals: Tim Redding (9-8) 4.54 ERA
Gametime: 3 p.m. EST
Weather: 85, sunny
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gameday beer: As some of us drink properly on a air-conditioned bus and at Nationals Park, you can dive into Extra Special Ale from Yards, our own very popular Philadelphia brewery. It’s a perfect drinker for Labor Day — not too light, not too strong, but extremely tasty with loads of hops. You’d better be grilling today — it goes with anything you put on the grill, from burgers to dogs to ribs to steak. Do it up.
Go Phillies!

Liking the lineup today:
Rollins
Victorino
Utley
Howard
Werth
Dobbs
Stairs
Coste
Nice to give Pat a little breather while not sacrificing power (i.e. Bruntlett or Taguchi)

Tim Redding again, could be bad. Dont suppose this board will be alive today because of the trip.
Go Phils.

Nice line-up… Did the batboys hand out balls in the locker room for the starters to team the cover off?

NEPA, I’m seriously considering getting MLBTV for the last month. Do you like yours so far (or anyone else that has it)?

Yea, I love it. I’ve gotten it for every April and September for the past 3 or 4 years because that’s when I’m away at school. I’ve heard the Premium MLB.tv is much better and worth the upgrade but it takes up too much bandwidth for my school so I’ve never gotten it. Highly recommended though.

Ben Sheets just left the game after 54 pitches through 5. He must be hurt. They still lead the Muts 1-0, and Santana has thrown 85 pitches through 5, so it’s nice that the Brewers will see the Muts pen.

A friend of mine bought one of them last year – that plays several games at a time, and he said it was unbearably slow and choppy. I’m afraid of that, but I’ll give the regular one a chance.

Right there Schmidtie would have taken care of business, especially in September.

Kendrick just sucks the life out of the game. He’s slow and bad, nothing worse than that.

This is gonna be a long day for the pen.

TJ, you aren’t kidding. Kendrick looks terrible. Time to warm up Eaton. (I’m kidding). I’ll try Happ instead.

The regular has a crappy picture, but it’s a no-brainer for $15 a month.

Jamie, he was using MLB.tv Mosaic which is an option that comes with the Premium version. If your watching only one game at a time I’ve never experienced any chopiness, but I can imagine 6 games at a time would slow everything down quite a bit.

Thanks guys. I just ordered the regular, so I’ll see what I think of it in a few minutes.

Stairs is a lot quicker than I thought he was. I thought he was Burrell 2.0.

Kendrick was MUCH better that inning. On a happy note, Redding has already thrown 47 pitches through 2, so maybe we’ll get rid of him after 5 today.

Harris and Guzman with the J-Hole Special – first pitch swinging. It takes so much pressure off the pitcher its ridiculous. Ya gotta make someone like Kendrick pitch a little bit, he’ll eventually give ya something to hit.

Santana just balked in a run! Sweet-ass!

Well, so far I’m not impressed with MLBTV. It’s been “transferring data” for the past 15 minutes and I haven’t even seen a damn picture yet. I’ve tried getting out of it and back in about 6 times, so maybe I just wasted $15.

Does Redding no hit us through 3 innings every time?

Tim Redding just shuts us down all the time. We did get him on the 3rd to last game of last season when Cole Hamels shut down the Nats. I was at that game and I think we won 6-0. But this year, he’s back to being Cy Young against us.

Okay, got it to work. Apparently there’s some sort of problem with Firefox, which is what I usually use. They told me to use IE7 and when I did, it works fine. BTW, I upgraded to the Premium once I got it to work – much better picture.

Yea, I never watch the games full screen so I figure the regular version does fine.

I’m more worried about the Phillies offense against Tim “Cy Young” Redding than about Kendrick. If Kendrick can’t get past 4 or 5 innings I wouldn’t mind seeing Happ today.

The best thing about this is listening to Don Sutton and his friends. I am privileged to have the Nats feed.

Luckily if Redding wants a no hitter, he’ll need 200 pitches

the Muts just scored 1 and Reyes flied out to end the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd. 2-1 going to bottom 7

And the 1 run was on via a wild pitch, that series is gonna come down to which bullpen is the least shittiest.

Great catch by Dukes, poorly placed bloop single by the Nats, and we’re officially in trouble here in the 4th.

Man, the Phils are lucky that the Nats are so inept at bunting and running on the basepaths.

Geez Tim Redding has the Phillies hitless now through 4 innings…Charlie, please take Kendrick out of the rotation and put Happ in his spot.

The Phillies HAVE to sweep this series because when the Muts play these guys, they’ll sweep them too. Okay, I’ve seen enough of Kendrick for the day.

it’s clear now that Kendrick is the weakest link in the starting rotation. it’s definitely time to give Happ a chance as a starter again

Uh…did the Nats announcers just say that Adam Eaton was once a highly coveted pitcher in the league? Was I asleep during those years?
