Headline: In game one, Phils must focus on the task
The Major Players: Jamie Moyer, Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth, Chad Durbin, Pedro Martinez, Fernando Tatis, David Wright, Brian Stokes
The Venue: Shea Stadium, Queens, N.Y.
The Number: 2 games behind (Mets)
In the biggest day of the season, the Phillies have two tussles with the Mets. First, it’s a Sunday matinee with Pedro Martinez, then it’s primetime on the national stage, Cole Hamels and Johan Santana. Two wins means a tie at the NL East leaderboard. Two losses means a heavy, heavy blow. A split? Not the end of the world.
Pay-Dro: This season the Phillies have hit Pedro Martinez well. In 10.1 innings the Phillies have 12 hits and seven runs off Martinez, but he has struck out 14 hitters.
Big Day Jamie: Jamie Moyer knows something about day games. He has pitched in 11 of them, for a 4.29 ERA.
Tattooed: Out of nowhere this year, Fernando Tatis has murdered the Phillies in 2008. The guy who has played 81 major league games between 2003 and 2008 is hitting .471 with two homers and six RBI against the stripes.
Dipped: This is the Phillies first doubleheader in 2008.
Lefty Loosey: Lefty lineup to open the doubleheader, with Matt Stairs in at left field and Greg Dobbs in at third base.
Phillies: Jamie Moyer (12-7) 3.80 ERA
Mets: Pedro Martinez (5-3) 5.07 ERA
Gametime: 2:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 82, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Werth/Dobbs/Stairs/Ruiz/Moyer

Your gameday beer: For game one of this epic two-game Sunday, you’ll want something that is light, refreshing and sunny. Go with St. Bernardus’ Witbier. A favorite Belgian brewery of mine, Bernardus makes some fine beers. And this is no exception. Laced with coriander and hops, this beer has a fruity aroma and taste without being a fruit. Be light for lunchtime — maybe cheddar or Jack cheese and crackers, something small.
Go Phillies!

Anyone with 3 brain cells knows that the baseball game is far more important today than the first of a 16 game schedule. However the phillies will be the 2nd fiddle on all sports coverage. This is a major part of the reason I am beginning to serioulsy hate the nfl.

NEPA, just because my opinion of football is different from yours doesn’t make my opinion ignorant. I could easily say your opinion is ignorant, but I won’t. Personally, I just like baseball better – I can relate to it much better than football.

Additionally, baseball players have been shown to have a much higher IQ than their counterparts in football.

Nice job by Moyer, I love how frustrating he is. And Fred, I also like baseball more than football, Phillies are my number one team by far. But just to call every football player a behemoth and to call the sport just one big collision is overlooking the skill involved, and clearly ignorant.

NEPA one of my good friends caught Steve Young’s first NFL touchdown pass so I am familiar with football and the players that comprise that sport. All I’m saying is I prefer baseball.
Great inning for the Phils. Let’s pour it on!!!

NEPA, Reyes and Evans had a massive brain fart and let a shallow popup drop from Rollins that allowed us to score our 6th run.
