lol…Bix Burgos? He is in trouble niw for hitting his girlfriend and last year was on Eyewitness news “On Your Side” for not paying his rent while with a lease and in the Minors.I don’t know if he was on the same page as Bill “NY’s gonna love this guy” Pecota but Bix is the least of Minaya’s problems.Bottom line other than Santana,he hasn’t stepped up to the plate and there are no answers for this team in the short term.He sat on his butt with the trading deadline and the last 2 seasons are a byproduct.Was Willie the qrong person to go downHill No he wasn’t and he’s also part of the mess Minaya made.

Regardless if the Wilpon’s love Minaya and maybe suck his toes……..sometimes love has to go out the window in business (Baseball sad to say is a business).Minaya was the architect of this present team including the poison pen and coaching staff.The farm is barren and nothing looking promising in that department which rests on Minaya.Now tell me as a fan what have the Mets done since September 2007? OK I’ll give him Johan,thats one thing.Bottom line in the last 13 months he has become a failure.No WONDER other teams and fans don’t respect the Mets.

Evan, you do realize he traded Cliff Lee, Grady Siezmore and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon, and then he traded a young healthy effective Carl Pavano for Cliff Floyd, signed Luis Castillo to a 4-year deal, traded for Ambioriz Burgos, failed to add any depth to the bench or bullpen during the offseason, the Mets are a product of Omar Minaya.

the Mets ownership loves Minaya, so he’s not getting fired. There are rumors that they will bring Jerry Manuel back even if they don’t make the playoffs. To me, you have to start over in the new ballpark if you choke two years in a row.

I just put on the 80′s channel on the XM……how prophetic to hear Nu Shooz doing “Point of no return” after a lackluster Mets game because it is the point of no return.I might as well tip my Mets cap to you guys and congratulate the Phillies on the inevitable clincher for the NL East.The Phillies deserve to win as the Mets deserved to lose it.

2 1/2 games out,1 up vs the Brew Crew.How bout those Amazin Mets boys and girls……..This team has not put up a fight in September for the last 2 Years.As a Mets fan this is disheartening and yet is just as bitter as last season.Minaya MUST be canned after this season is over,and find a GM who is worth a damn.The worst that I feel for and deserves to stay is Jerry Manuel because to me that he has shown a lot of heart with what we had.The bullpen from top to bottom and soup to nuts MUST BE CLEARED OUT.I’m disgusted.I am wondering,Is Brian Cashman available? lol

Evan, tie Joe Carter’s homerun with the players strike the following year, I lost interest in baseball. I went to a game several times a year just to go, but loosely paid attention. It took the last season at the Vet for me to get back into Phils die hard.

I too was 9 years of age when the Phils lost the world series on that Joe Carter blast. It ruined my love of the Phillies for many subsequent years. F Joe Carter!

Odd. I was calm, and walked over and simply shut the TV off and never saw Carter round the bases.
If you had been following Williams’ performance in that series, you’d have known like I did that it was over when they pulled Roger Mason to let the Wild Thing’s dead arm work its magic. I still blame Fregosi.

I haven’t seen a championship in my lifetime. I was born in December 83, which means the last city championship was several months beforehand with the Sixers.

So it would be nice to see it once in my lifetime.

As far as the Cubbies, I don’t see Pinella really resting them too much. Baseball is too much of a momentum sport and nothing is more of a buzzkill then laying off while on a hot streak for a team. Look at what happened to the red hot Rockies last year when they swept the NLCS and then sat around for a week until the World Series.

The ’80 team. Well, I wasn’t alive, but from what I’ve seen, heard, researched, they were extremely talented but extremely lax. They turned it on late. A lot like this team. I wouldn’t hesitate to say this team is very much the same as the ’80 team.

The ’93 team was lucky. And good. But lucky. They had one significant injury (Hollins for a month), and a slew of career years (Inky, Kruk, Dykstra, Eisenrich, practically the whole staff, etc.). Now, for what they were they were a very good team, but a couple more injuries and they would’ve been a flame-out team, very likely.

Compare this team to 1977 (101-61 in a soft, non-parity NL) and now we’re talking.
