Headline: Alright, folks, here we go
The Major Players: Brett Myers, Pat Burrell, Jimmy Rollins, Brad Lidge, Jo-Jo Reyes, Brian McCann
The Venue: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pa.
The Number: 1.5 games ahead NL East
Four games left. Brett Myers on the hill. A 1.5-game lead. Must. Win.
Big Money Brett Myers: Tonight will be the final start of the 2008 season for Brett Myers (very likely). His second-half stats: 7-3, 2.79 ERA, 72 K, 19 BB.
Hittin’ Season: All of the Braves big bats have hit Myers well this season. Brian McCann is .667 with three RBI; Chipper Jones is 1.000 with a home run; Kelly Johnson is 1.000 with a home run; Yunel Escobar is .500 with a home run. Ouch.
On The Other Hand: By contrast, the Phillies have also hit Jo-Jo Reyes well. Carlos Ruiz has one of his four home runs against Reyes.
One Louder: With the loss yesterday, the Phils are 26-23 in one-run games.
Tomahawk’d: This will be the last time the Phils see the Braves; the Phillies are 14-3 against them this season.
Phillies: Brett Myers (10-12) 4.46 ERA
Braves: Jo-Jo Reyes (3-11) 5.74 ERA
Gametime: 7:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 65, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Coste/Myers

The only way this team could win a WS is after losing the first 3 games.

I think Cholly needs to switch the lineup around and get Werth out of the 3 hole because he’s in a funk.

Ugh. Manny you are incredibly right. It seems like the Phils can only game when someone is above them or knocking on their door.

Well, worst case scenario we’re 1 up on the Brewers and tied with the Mets going into the final weekend. Certainly not what we hoped for but we just need to take care of business vs. the Nats. Must take at least 2 out of 3 vs them and make the Brewers sweep or go home.

be careful NEPA, if the phils and mets are tied at the end, the mets get the division

MetsgirlinPA – They only get that tiebreaker if they’re tied and ahead of the Brewers. In that case, great . I’ll take a wild card. If we’re all tied and behind the Brewers then we host a one game playoff.

Lets not discount the fact that the Mets still have to WIN. They are into their pen.
They also face a feisty team in the Marlins to finish the season. All hope is not lost, but I can definitely feel the boot on my throat.

The Mets will look at the scoreboard and get fired up…and then win their game.

Werth has got to poke a base hit here. 2 runs here can just change so much.

McCann’s got Werth’s number. every time he goes up to talk to the pitcher, he must be imparting some kind of insane knowledge about how to get Werth out.

That was their opportunity. I’m generally a very positive thinker, but I just don’t see it right now. On the good side, Soriano got a clutch double to take the lead, 6-5.

I try to be positive but the Phillies are playing July-August baseball. Ugly and unlucky.

the phillies do not deserve to make the playoffs. they had 2 games to put away the mets, and couldn’t do it. so lucky they don’t have to face berggman this weekend – but they will still lose the first game to lannan and probably have to do a one game playoff.

there just not a good team when they need to be a good team.
myers is not clutch.
hamels is not clutch.
utley is not clutch.
that’s the bottom line – if your pitchers and best player aren’t coming up in big spots, you’re not going anywhere.
goodnight.

Mike T., losing 2 games shouldn’t be enough to claim that we “don’t deserve to make the playoffs.” We should win these games, I agree, but I wouldn’t go as far….

Hamels kept us in a position to win last night, but we couldn’t take care of business,Myers is just stinking it up again.

Oh Chris the Mets are coming back.
Well, you die the way you live. In the case of the Phillies, if we do go down, we’ll go down the way we played: uninspired, listless and as individuals who ritualistically shrink when the spotlight turns on.

People are acting like this team is done. No matter what happens the next two days we are still tied for first place and one game ahead of the wild card and thats WORST CASE. I’m having a tough time not panicking myself, but this team is far from done.
