Headline: It’s the big show, and Phils must conquer
The Major Players: Brett Myers, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, JC Romero, Mike Pelfrey, Duaner Sanchez, Luis Ayala
The Venue: Shea Stadium, Queens, N.Y.
The Number: 3 games behind (Mets)
Here we go. After the Phillies dropped two of three to the lowly Nationals, they find themselves in need of at least two wins against the Mets in the biggest series of the year. Brett Myers toes the rubber for the Phils; Mike Pelfrey gets the call for New York.
Big Pelf: Mike Pelfrey has been fantastic as of late for the Metropolitians. In his last four starts, he has given up just six runs while going into the seventh each time.
Be The Ace: Since returning from the minors, Brett Myers has been the third best pitcher in baseball (behind CC Sabathia and Rich Harden). He gave up three runs in five innings against the Mets his first game back.
Victor-Not: Since August 26, Shane Victorino has lost eight points in his average. He wasn’t in the starting lineup Wednesday.
Futile Play: The Phillies are just 5-10 against the Mets this season.
Phillies: Brett Myers (8-10) 4.40 ERA
Mets: Mike Pelfrey (13-8) 3.66 ERA
Gametime: 7:10 p.m. EST
Weather: 78, mostly cloudy
Lineup:
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gamenight beer: Okay — let’s get down to business with good beer. Dogfish Head presents Indian Brown Ale. Yeah, delicious stuff. Nutty, coffee-like, hearty, real strong, deep stuff. You’ll like it once, have a second, and be all set. What to eat? Have some Chinese food tonight — maybe some pork fried rice or something. Something that’ll fill you up and get you going for the biggest weekend of the season.
Go Phillies!

Great win, but I feel it is just prolonging the inevitable misery. Myers was fantastic and the reason they won.

Great game. Jesus if Myers pitches like that all the time, he’s an easy Cy Young winner every year.

to Grrrumpy Miner… this is NOT the same Brett Myers that we wanted hung. this is a new and improved Myers who is a dominating pitching monster. a totally different guy came back from the minors.

Kyle-Bruntlett was playing deep and had to run in hard and made a basket catch, Vic had to backpeddle and crashed into the wall.

This Brett Myers is pitching the best he has ever pitched in his career, which is what i dont understand. I knew that he was a good pitcher and wasnt as bad as he was in the 1st half. but damn 6-1 in the 2nd half with an era in the 1.50s

It’s really amazing to see someone turn it around like Myers has, and I loved that he was hugging all the other guys in the dugout after the 8th, show us the love, baby!

I have to admit, I said I never wanted to see Myers in a Phillies uniform ever again, thank god I’m an asshole.

CT…believe it or else,It was the VERY SAME Brett Myers who pitched tonight.Just learned his lesson down in the minors that if you can’t cut it….down you go.I do tip my Mets cap to the Phils for a good game.I am glad the short, yellow bus, hockey helmet so called loudmouth Mets fans are in hiding.MAYBE some intellectual observations in here with fans who can make some common sense.

Haha – I don’t want to see Adam Eaton in a Phils uniform again either, that’s probably a safer bet.

somebody should stab Victorino to death and hide his body behind the Left Field fence.

My roommate is a diehard Met’s fan, and he hates Vic more than anyone. A.K.A, I love Vic more than anything.

Yeah, they’ve come to really hate him recently. Reading these comments on Metsblog though is somewhat amusing, but mostly disturbing. Like, on the Phils blogs, the fans’ negative comments tend to be more on the sarcastic and pessimistic side. The comments from these posters on Metsblog in regards to the Phillies players and us fans are just downright sedistic, disturbing, and full of violent anger.
And Phillies fans are supposed to the obnoxious ones?

This win was so big. God forbid if we win tomorrow. Eagles season opener and Phils going for the sweep, I’m getting nothing done Sunday if it happens.

what a great statement win for the phils..but we cant forget what happened the last two series where phils won the first game but lost the last two. Moyer’s start tomorrow will be the definitive point in this phillies season. Also if we are to have a realistic shot at getting back in the playoffs, J-roll has got to get on base! Lets go phils!
