To back up my point, how many people came in here tonight and called this the game of the year like the last Mets series? Zero. We all love a pitcher’s duel because there’s a lot of tension, but as far as the really classic games, this wasn’t one of them. Side note – go Moyer tomorrow, or Sunday.

also, i think hamels will blow his arm out in two years. hell miss a year and a half when he does it. theyd better be prepared to deal with that when it happens. if they want to avoid that theyd work on his stamina in the offseason. he whimps out when he should train harder, and because of that, hamels isnt prepared to throw as many innings as someone like myers or even joe blanton (if he, you know, keeps that WHIP under control) over the course of a season. i think hes shown improved durability this year. however, he isnt getting a contract until he shows a full healthy year or TWO.

By boring I meant no action. I was with a bunch of people tonight and most of them wanted to turn the game off because nothing was happening. I was hanging on every single pitch, but compared to other Phils/Mets games, this one was not as memorable.

he wasnt bringing his A game ALL year until they sent him down. then somehting clicked, i suspect, he got away from rich dubee….its a remarkable change, it really is if he can hold it. he was worthless by the texas game, basically done. when that guy is on hes the ace, not hamels. but can he do that enough to be the ace? when we saw him come up all those years ago as a kid and light it up at wrigley field we thought hed be our ace for 15 years. now, hes struggled with the mental aspects of being consistently on top. it looks like, as a starter, hes started to figure it out finally. i hope he can be consistent. hes really special when hes on his game.

i cant believe im agreeing with bruce. a pitchers duel is THE best game to watch. from a psychological standpoint. to know that BOTH starterss are on top of their game is AWESOME to watch. especially on HDTV.

also, THIS is the type of pitching im talking about. BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR. of all people, with his HORRENDOUS first half of the season, brett myers shows up and throws down the gauntlet with 8 scoreless AND he has been an absolute BEAST since coming back. comeback player of the year, anybody? I think so.

whatever the AAA pitching coach told him, keep doing it brett.

I agree to some extent, NEPA, but the Mets have actually not been inconsistent lately. I mean, I just checked this – they are 48-28 over their last 76 games. That’s half a season of division-winning baseball.

We, on the other hand, are .500 since early June.

Smith, this whole season has been weird though. The Phils and the Mets have been so inconsistent. Nobody would have predicted we lose 2 games to the Nats while the Mets sweep the Brewers. After this series is over, the Phils need to focus on themselves only, just win games.

As a fan of baseball, I enjoy all aspects of a game; a dominant performance of one or both pitchers where one mistake can proved costly or a hitting/fielding clinic displayed by both clubs. If tonight’s game of a most crucial series bores you, perhaps it’s best for you to stick with football and the “Eagles” this Sunday (chuckles).
