I definitely thought Cole was better than that. I was expecting another Friday game where is was just amazing pitching by both guys. Hamels really didn’t look right out there. Like he didnt’ want to be out there. That is the moment that you wait for a play your best.

Last nights game is where Santana earns his contract. Cole Hamels just didn’t have it yesterday and it could’ve been worse for him. This series is kind of a waste for the Phillies to only gain a game. They needed the sweep and their ace just couldn’t pull it off. Still going to be a great September for baseball.

To the REAL Phillies fans who want their team to play better instead of hoping and praying another team plays worse, stop reading now… none of this applies to you. I hate your team as much as you hate mine but for all the right reasons. I’d gladly share a pizza and a beer with you as we watch our teams play meaningful baseball in ANY September.

Now… for the rest of you. You know who you are. You’re the geniuses peering into the future to predict repeat of a once-a-generation collapse that occurred just one year ago… the ones listing all the reasons why it will happen. Is this really all you can hope for? You don’t think your team can actually WIN? You think the Phillies aren’t capable of their own success? What a sad, sad fan you must be. I pity you.

Smith – maybe the key then will be Florida. If the Phils can pound them (5-1 or 6-0), but the Marlins play even with the Mets (3-3) or better, that might be it.

Hater, before the Phils won the 2nd game of the Nats series, the Nats had won 7 in a row. They’ve now won 3 of 4 since that loss to the Phils. So that’s 10-2 in their last 12 (I did the math for you as a courtesy, as I know most Mets fans are challenged in basic skills like 2nd grade addition/subtraction). I’d submit that qualifies as a hot streak.

The thing is – unlike last year, the Mets have actually pounded the shitty teams this year – specifically the Nationals, who they now play 6 times. They didn’t fare well early in the season against the braves, but that was a very, VERY different braves team then, and a couple weeks ago the Mets swept the Braves. I’m very worried since they have 12 games now against the braves and nats. I know they have the cubs after that, but by then I think the cubs will have clinched and pinella will rest people. And with Zambrano and Harden with health issues, there is no way they are going to pitch that series if they dont have to.

We shall see. It will definitely be interesting. The Phils need to show up this week. Big time.

Honestly, what to do about Burrell is beyond me. I could see the argument on both sides.

So I really have no clue. I say worry about crossing that bridge when the season is over.

What do you think about keeping Burrell next year? I know it’s hard to replace those type of numbers, but he is too cold at the wrong times, and I think paying him the type of $$ he’d command just is a bad investment.
