Headline: Phils look to keep momentum strong
The Major Players: Jamie Moyer, Chase Utley, Chad Durbin, James Parr, Chipper Jones, Blaine Boyer
The Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Ga.
The Number: 0.5 games behind (Mets) NL East; Tied in first (Brewers) Wild Card
After a tremendous four-game sweep of the Brewers, the Phillies will focus on the final 12 games of the year. Now everything is practically mapped out, and the goal is simple: Win more than the others. Jamie Moyer starts the work tonight against rookie James Parr.
The Parr Side: Parr has thrown 12 scoreless innings to begin his major league career. He carries a slider and chanegup with a pretty normal fastball; in other words, he’s the kind of pitcher the Phils struggle against.
Chopped: The Phillies have won their first six games in Atlanta this season. They’re the first team since the 1989 Padres to win six games in a row in Atlanta during one season. And this season the Phils are 10-2 against the Braves — two more wins will tie a franchise record for season wins.
Take The Lead: The Phillies are 57-20 when they score first. So it’s important to do that.
Ocho … Cinco: Small sample size be damned: Jayson Werth is a .345 hitter with a 1.231 OPS when hitting fifth. (He hit sixth during his three- and two-homer games this season.)
Phillies: Jamie Moyer (14-7) 3.68 ERA
Braves: James Parr (1-0) 0.00 ERA
Gametime: 7 p.m. EST
Weather: 73, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Moyer

Your gamenight beer: Smuttynose Robust Porter is exactly that — robust. Good in easy sips, it’ll tingle your fancy and have you dreaming of spaceships. Or something. Whatever the case, it’s a good beer for tonight. Jamie Moyer needs to go deep and do his thing. The offense needs to hit the ball well and get some timely runs. Together, we can make a difference.
Go Phillies!

The areas pretty much forgot Philly even has a baseball team since football season started…No wonder J-Roll calls everyone frontrunners.

This I thought was interesting:
September 16, 2008 W L GB Strk
Mets 83 66 – Lost 2
Phils 83 67 0.5 Won 4
September 16, 2007 W L GB Strk
Mets 83 65 – Lost 3
Phils 80 69 3.5 Won 4
It’s crazy how similar they are!!!
Go phils!

It’s true. I’m actually glad the Eagles lost last night. Perhaps people will forget about them for another week. Doubt it.

How does that young pitcher from Atlanta look? Heard he’s pretty good.

I am just glad baseball is still in the forefront in town. Philadelphia is such a great baseball town and I get sick of hearing about football when the Phillies are still in the pennant race!

I cannot stand the Eagles one bit, and the fans I cant either. Don’t worry though, the Packers will beat the Cowboys Sunday Night. And yes, there is a difference between Eagles fans and Phillies fans.

I can’t stand football one bit. I think it is the worst sport ever made. I could care less about it.

I like the game of football in itself, but the chest beating and hotdogging of players and fans gets old pretty quick.

I like the Eagles, though Phillies have always been number 1 for me. But it is possible to like both the Eagles and Phillies at the same time. Last night I was in Eagles mode, rest of the week I’m in Phillies mode.

Yep, and in a few weeks the Flyers start, so if the Phils make post season, it’ll have to be triple mode!

I didn’t start enjoying football until mcnabb was drafted. My grandmom and dad were huge influences on my love for baseball and I didn’t really care about other sports teams.
I currently love the sixers because of AI getting me into them and I watch the eagles hoping they win but I am not totally devestated when they lose like most of the city.

I used to love basketball more than anything but could care less for it now since it’s all thugs and shit in it now and the Knicks have been so terrible for so long. Now I just really focus on baseball.

Awwww yeah Werth! Also, sweet to see Parr hit 60 pitches before the end of the 3rd. The Nats look like they may make their game interesting too.

That 50% comment is pretty dumb. 2 out of 4 means he didn’t try too often.

Smith should’ve held Howard, but oh well. I guess it’s easy to gamble when you have a lead and are jumping on a young pitcher.

Why send Howard, he’s pretty slow and doesn’t Francoeur have a great arm?

Once Howard’s moving like that it’s probably rough for him to put on the brakes.
Oh boy, here comes the tomahawk chant.

They sent him home because the probability of scoring was higher than 30%. The probability of Feliz getting a hit (and hence Howard scoring) is only 25%.
I think it was a good call…

Moyer looks tired, I know he supposedly pitches better when he’s tired, but how many more times can he do this?

This is where Moyer’s experience makes a big diff.

Well… there were 2 outs in the first place.
What’s Feliz average? roughly ~.250 so that’s the 25%
And the “higher than 30%” I think it’s a good estimate for a big guy’s chance of scoring from 1st with a good double..a lot can go wrong in getting that ball in time at home plate.

It’s time to get Moyer out the bullpen hasn’t pitched in few days and should be rested.

Moyer had a rough inning, but I still trust him here. I’ve never seen a pitcher who can adjust in innings after giving up runs like he can.

BA doesn’t consider things like walks, errors, and wild pitches which could’ve scored howard. His odds of scoring are probably a little bit higher off of Feliz batting than just taking the straight BA.
not that I really know how you could figure that out, I’m just trying to distract myself from the phils blowing the lead
