Headline: Phils look to keep momentum strong
The Major Players: Jamie Moyer, Chase Utley, Chad Durbin, James Parr, Chipper Jones, Blaine Boyer
The Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Ga.
The Number: 0.5 games behind (Mets) NL East; Tied in first (Brewers) Wild Card
After a tremendous four-game sweep of the Brewers, the Phillies will focus on the final 12 games of the year. Now everything is practically mapped out, and the goal is simple: Win more than the others. Jamie Moyer starts the work tonight against rookie James Parr.
The Parr Side: Parr has thrown 12 scoreless innings to begin his major league career. He carries a slider and chanegup with a pretty normal fastball; in other words, he’s the kind of pitcher the Phils struggle against.
Chopped: The Phillies have won their first six games in Atlanta this season. They’re the first team since the 1989 Padres to win six games in a row in Atlanta during one season. And this season the Phils are 10-2 against the Braves — two more wins will tie a franchise record for season wins.
Take The Lead: The Phillies are 57-20 when they score first. So it’s important to do that.
Ocho … Cinco: Small sample size be damned: Jayson Werth is a .345 hitter with a 1.231 OPS when hitting fifth. (He hit sixth during his three- and two-homer games this season.)
Phillies: Jamie Moyer (14-7) 3.68 ERA
Braves: James Parr (1-0) 0.00 ERA
Gametime: 7 p.m. EST
Weather: 73, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Moyer
MLB TV
MLB Gameday Audio
MLB Gameday
Your gamenight beer: Smuttynose Robust Porter is exactly that — robust. Good in easy sips, it’ll tingle your fancy and have you dreaming of spaceships. Or something. Whatever the case, it’s a good beer for tonight. Jamie Moyer needs to go deep and do his thing. The offense needs to hit the ball well and get some timely runs. Together, we can make a difference.
Go Phillies!

RiVLez, I have been reading the “sky is falling” posts on Metsblog. I post on there (not often) as MrDudeAndStuff. There are good fans on that site, but there are a lot of dramatic people who go way overboard very quickly.

An insurance run or 2 would be nice.

RiVLez, don’t get me wrong, they are amusing. I guess from my perspective as an opposing fan, it’d be just bad karma to kick opposing fans when they’re down.

Plus, I have a girlfriend from North Jersey, so she’s tamed me into being a more civil to the opposing fanbase.

I’m friggin DYING here because I can’t watch these games. I have to settle for listening to the ones that aren’t on “myP2P” on Gameday audio. This late in the season, I’d rather sit in the dentist chair looking at all the drills and junk than to just listen to these games. If I don’t get a satellite soon, someone is going to get hurt.

Exactly. Plus, we are well groomed Philly fans. We have all learned by now that you cannot celebrate until it is officially over.

You guys called me an idiot for saying Howard had a chance at MVP about a month ago, an idiot for saying the season wasnt over until september was, an idiot for being optimistic. Who’s the idiot now? Dont ever quit on your team again.

I don’t think the Mets are remotely done yet, which is why I find so many of their fans throwing in the towel confusing. Wildcard or Division, I think the Mets will make it into the playoffs. The Brewers are just a wreck right now and Houston lost to Florida 5-1. So the Wildcard may be more wide open to the NL East then we initially thought.

I want to see the Phillies and Mets in the post season! Going against each other in the division series! That would be WILD!!!

I agree SJ Mike, brewers are just a mess right now.

PS, we can’t face each other in the division series. The only way we’d match up would be in the NLCS. They won’t set teams in the same division against each other in the divisional round.

the Phillies and mets can’t play in the 1st round of the playoffs. The NL east winner will play the Dodgers and the wild card will play the Cubs.

Fielder hit another Homerun, making Soriano’s solo shot bigger. 4-3 in the 8th.

Evan,
If you watched LAST September and then watched the last 4 days, you would be VERY skeptical as well. I mean, think about it….17 games to go and we collapsed and now 17 games were left and the collapse began again. And all the the while, the team denies it ever happened and refuses to face it head on. I wouldn’t be so down on them if they were busting it out there and acknowledging how they owe the fans a different ending this season, but they are just too soft for that.

Man i hope Lidge isn’t ready for his first blown save tonight…We all remember the Grand Slam he gave up to McCann at CBP.

We learned from our Cubs series that they are very beatable. The Cubs scare me far less then the Dodgers do for some reason.

I think NY fans in general are less loyal to their teams. The Yankees and Mets trade/pick up players like they are just pieces of meat, doesn’t make for a loyal fan base, imo.

No jumping ship here. I just have to say it, the Mets are a good team but the Phillies just scare the sh*t out of me! Every time we are in front the Phillies are right behind us. They are a good team that can be hot or cold but are always neck to neck with the Mets!

Georgie, its not that we are not loyal we are too loyal we want the team to be the best and NY fans expect nothing less. And I am pretty sure that Phillies fans would not be upset if there GM went out and made a bunch off moves to make thier team better so they have a chance to win a world series!
