Headline: Back in first, Phils try to create separation
The Major Players: JA Happ, JC Romero, Jayson Werth, Chase Utley, Jair Jurrjens, Brian McCann, Casey Kotchman
The Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Ga.
The Number: 0.5 games ahead
The Phillies took the first of three with the Braves with a staggering fight back from purgatory. Ryan Howard solidified his MVP case with a legend’s homer in the eighth inning to give the Phils a lead. Now rookie JA Happ will take the hill with his sights set on a big win.
The Happening: JA Happ has never faced the Braves. You want a good stat? How about a 0.00 ERA on the road?
Septembarian: Howard’s eight homers in September are one more than Braves bench player Greg Norton … has all season.
As Ryan Goes …: Howard is hitting .298 in Philles’ wins. And just .184 in losses.
Phillies: JA Happ (0-0) 5.71 ERA
Braves: Jair Jurrjens (13-9) 3.62 ERA
Gametime: 7 p.m. EST
Weather: 67, cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Happ

Your gamenight beer: A perfect beer for tonight. Snap an Autumnal Fire. A great fall beer, it burns the belly but soothes the soul. Quite like that ‘ol time rock and roll. Not any of that newfangled Killers stuff, or Huey Lewis. Ugh. He’s so modern. Point is, with Happ needing some fire (mainly from his offense), this is the beer of choice. Go with pumpkin bread and smoked steak.
Go Phillies!

Very excited to see how Happ reacts tonight. I was very impressed with him as a starter, hopefully that little stint in the bullpen didn’t screw him.

Let’s go Phils! Every game is big!
Happ needs to step it up. Howard needs to continue his hot streak.

Doesn’t matter so much when the rest of the line-ups coming up big keeping Jurj out there for a long time in the 1st, almost 40 pitches before he gets to sit will really takes it toll.

Happ must be feeling pretty wierd right now holding a bat before a ball…

Why wasn’t Happ taking some strikes? He was swinging away at a few obivous high and away balls.

Don’t think we can really complain to much there NEPA, he’s probably pretty excited to get onto the mound and his plate vision probably wasn’t quite on there.

NJ, I’m not blaming Happ. If I’m Charlie I’m telling him to keep the bat on his shoulder for at least one strike. Jurrjens is walking people left and right. Jimmy is swinging a hot bat, it would have been nice to get him an RBI opportunity there.

wooo, not a bad first inning for Happ. i think if it were Kendrick up there, our lead would’ve been cut in half before the end of the 1st

if kendrick were on the mound … the bottom of the first would still be going for another twenty minutes

Burrell is an endless vortex of suck, I feel bad for him watching him be the worst part of such a surging team. We know he can play better, what’s wrong??

No offense meant above NEPA. It’s tough to see Burrell re-signing here unless he’s willing to give a big hometown discount, feel sad since my Jersey’s a Burrell one and it’s tough to imagine him not a Phil.

He looks like he’s depressed, yeah, I know, who wouldn’t be? But I mean like clinically or something.

Every time I see Pat Burrell up close whether it’s on TV or in person at a game, I feel like he always has the same far-away look. Almost like he’s channeling some other time in his life. How about he channels into the 1st half of the season?

one of my best friends went to high school with iverson down in virginia … she says that he was a total dork and the day he was drafted he spent his signing bonus or whatever on all those tatoos … got em all that day.
