Headline: Phils call on Hamels to preserve sweep
The Major Players: Cole Hamels, Brad Lidge, Pat Burrell, Mike Hampton, Blaine Boyer, Chipper Jones
The Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Ga.
The Number: 0.5 games ahead
JA Happ and the Phillies put away the Braves in a convincing 6-1 win last night. Now going for the sweep, it’s Cole Hamels’ turn to beat the Braves. He goes against Mike Hampton, who has finally been able to string together some healthy starts for Atlanta.
Coley-High-Harmony: Well over the 200-inning plateau (214.3 innings), Hamels has now crossed into his 30+ range (he has now thrown 30 more innings than last season).
Hampton In: Hampton made his first start in over a year against the Phillies on July 26. In that game he gave up six runs on eight hits in four innings; it was his worst start on his comeback trail. A month later he hit a high note, pitching eight innings against the Marlins.
One: The Braves are 9-28 in one-run games.
Road Cookin’: With a win tonight, the Phillies would finish 9-0 against the Braves in Atlanta. The only other team to have eight-straight wins in Atlanta was the 1975 Reds.
Phillies: Cole Hamels (13-9) 3.11 ERA
Braves: Mike Hampton (2-2) 5.34 ERA
Gametime: 7 p.m. EST
Weather: 80, partly cloudy
Lineup: Rollins/Utley/Werth/Howard/Burrell/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Hamels

Your gamenight beer: You want Guinness? Here’s a secret: Go with the Extra Stout. It has more alcohol (6%) and is a good, light drinker with the same, fine stout taste. Who doesn’t love Guinness? Commies. That’s about it. But really, if you’re going to cheer on Hamels tonight, do it the right way: With a Guinness and a chicken pot pie. Delish.
Go Phillies!

Hampton is not starting tonight, Jo Jo Reyes is. At least they announced that this morning.

And really? Ruiz tonight vs a lefty? God damnit. I don’t care if he’s hot, Coste is 2 for 2 off of Reyes with a HR.

im sure most of you didn’t get to see it, but the brewers cubs game today was one of the best of the season, if not the best. an absolutely backbreaking loss for the brew crew.

I love watching the Phightin’ Phils in Southern Arizona (gotta love the internet!)! Been a die-hard Phils Phan since I was a kid in Havertown! Go Phillies, GO!! That Charlie Manuel is quite a Skipper – makin’ the most outta what he’s got, and making the strategic moves at the right times! Keep it up!

Could it be the True Blue Brew Crew are becomming the choke artists of 2008? Well if todays game vs the Cubbies is an indication than there you have it.Mets/Phillies win today,it makes it that much easier for 2 teams in the NL East to reach Serious October baseball……Mets/Phillies NLCS would be the BEST match up for Bud and TBS/Fox to over promote for viewers.Good luck but secretly,I will be rooting hard for those braves.I’d be lying if I wasn’t.

Tim Redding is such a bone. He dominates the Phils and blows against everyone else. He gave up a home run to Brian Schneider. enough said.

Ruiz has been the unsung hero down the stretch. He’s been getting a lot of hits, helping turn the line up over to the pitcher, has had some nice clutch RBIs. I definitely would take him over Coste as a back up to Marson next year.

When an “ace” gets a 2-0 lead in the 1st you protect that. No excuses. Myers is our ace now, not Hamels. He needs to show up to pitch in big games.

Out of curiosity knowing that left handed hitters are hitting .366 off of Hampton why is Dobbs not starting, why is Stairs not starting, and why aren’t Vic and Rollins batting left handed off of him?

Johnny, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t hearing things because I just bought the Force Unleashed for the Wii and the first mission is playing as Vader killing Wookies. So wanted to make sure I didn’t just have Star Wars on the brain.

Phil, Force Unleashed came out Tuesday. Got it today.
Is Power Pros 08 any good? I have the first version of Power Pros and wondering if it is worth trading in and getting the 08 version.

Yeah, I sold my 07 on ebay and bought 08. The success mode isn’t as good, but the game play is better and up to date. You don’t have to create a Kyle Kendrick. haha Now I’m gonna have to create a Happ though.

I thought Force Unleashed was only coming out for 360 and PC. I’m really happy to hear it came out on Wii. I was really disappointed because the game looks awesome, but I have a mac and a wii.
