how young is this team really? i know the window for baseball isn’t as small as it is for say, football but… isn’t this it? aren’t we prime to shoot the moon here? we’re 1 for 125 so far… i dont wanna get in the ChiCubs theory of, “there’s always next year” do you? even they have gotten sick of it and went out to spend money (the right way)… truth is our FO spends a good deal of money, enough to win a series but… and this is a j-lo sized but… we can never assemble the right pieces!

I just think that trying to DEVELOP Golson at the top-stage of baseball will kill his confidence, and his development will actually go backwards.

Let the kid play everyday, and if he shows that he can contribute at this level, then you bring him up. but he clearly could use more conditioning… he’s an above average player at AA.. so challenge him some more at AAA and then see what you have.

I’m ALL for people thinking outside the box… as long as you stick around to defend your opinions. . .

And if you actually think something, stick with it, and if someone calls you out on something.. man-up and say you were wrong and someone else was right….

I’ve OFTEN been criticized on here, BUT.. at the same time, most people that read this on a regular basis know that I know what I’m talking about, and that I’d rather stay positive about this team instead of bash them.

That being said, I’m glad geoff writes on here a lot because it keeps conversations going.. me and him don’t often agree. but in the end, everyone just wants this team to win.

Let Pat Burrell go and work out a trade with the Rockies for Matt Holliday…I like Pat and all but he’s looking for another 5 year contract and do we really wanna be stuck with him sucking for another 5 years.

im not bitching about blanton. he is what he is, a 4th/5th type guy whos fine at the back of yoru rotation. sure hes a third now, but whne you trade jimmy rollins and ryan howard maybe he becomes a 4??

use him as a defensive replacement, spot player at first to get him confident in his abilities and work him into the lineup. tahts how you develop someone who has the talent to succeed but not the makeup quite yet .

not every prospect can just come up and win the mvp award like ryan howard.

i’m convinced that geoff isn’t even a logical, thinking human being, but a computer program created by mets fans to constantly spout the most random and ridiculous ideas of how to improve the phillies.

the bitching about blanton is beyond pointless. the phillies have been six and four in his starts. is he great? no, he’s decent though. he’s going to have rough starts but the phillies will win more than they’ll lose with him, which is infinitely better than you could say for eaton. (also we never “signed” blanton, for whatever dope came up with that criticism) would sabathia or harden or even burnett be better? obviously to the first two, probably to the latter, but the price tag on all three was too high. people have to remember the phillies are still a young team and building for the future is just as important for them as going for it here and now. the guys we gave up for blanton were NOT top prospects. cardenas is a good prospect but at best will probably amount to a solid mlb level 2nd baseman. josh outman?? here’s josh outman’s line from yesterday’s As game: 2.1 IP 4H 3ER 1K 1HR. DOMINATING!

So your rant before about Golson would strike out so much at the minor league levels that it would hurt his development, so instead lets use him randomly at the highest level, against better pitching, and hope that he turns out ok?? You BAFFLE me on a regular basis

Geoff…even though your logic escapes me ..its allright…maybe its just me…,I know you are a true Philly fan …
I even like the trade JRoll ongoing stuff…
But are you serious about trading Howard ?and putting a rookie or rookies into the lineup next year.
It just seems like everyone was bitching around the trade deadline that we couldnt put an all star at every position.
We cant get rid of all star caliber players for rookies now…

greg golson should be the 4th or 5th outfielder. he has some value playing a role until someone can teach him how to hit. keep him away from those trainers and he MIGHT, repeat, MIGHT turn out ok.

look at long term value. burrell can provide consistent numbers for 2-3 more years at first base. howard is under team control so in order to beef up other areas of your team you have to move him . but move him for a puropose not just to do it. not a salary dump i mean.

right… but the Phillies didn’t NIX a trade for Burnett because they wouldn’t give up Golson..

They wouldn’t give up Carrasco or Marson, and everyone else was fair game. the early reports that the Blue Jays would do a deal involving Jason Donald and Greg Golson weren’t true, which is why a deal wouldn’t get done

and Burnett’s deal is so bad that no team wanted to get him mid-season because if he did well, he’s leave.. and if he did crappy, you were stuck with his contract for next year..
