Tonight’s Missive: A Little R&R

Tonight the Phillies aren’t playing.
Good. Do something else.
Seriously. Don’t think about the Phillies. Don’t think about baseball (I know, the Mets and Brewers are both playing, but I don’t care). Do something else.
My plans:
6:30 p.m.: Leave work. Or around that time. I always have loads of work to do, so who knows when exactly I’ll leave, but there you go.
6:40 p.m.: Hit the gym. Run a couple miles, do some minor lifting.
8 p.m.: Arrive home. Make dinner — looks like pasta may be on the menu. Washing it down with a 90-Minute IPA.
9 p.m.: Season premiere of “The Office.” Big dealings at Dunder Mifflin, with Pam and Jim up in the air, and shady stuff going down in the Dwight/Angela/Andy triangle. Does the Phillies thing count since Jim is a huge Phillies fan?
10 p.m.: “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Best show on TV not called “The Office,” and maybe better. Who doesn’t love Charlie? He’s the Wild Card. Damn, another baseball reference. And they’re all Philly sports fans. Damn damn.
11 p.m.: Creative writing. God knows it’ll turn into blog posts anyway.
1 a.m.: Sleep. Big day Friday. Big day.
What’s on your plate?

I love both of these TV shows, but there is no doubt It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is better than The Office. The characters are much better and it is smarter comedy, in my opinion. It just sucks I get no cable in college and don’t get to see it.
I need something to make my mind off the Phillies right now.

Yea, Arrested Development (best show of all time) > It’s Always Sunny > The Office.
“Charlie, that sounds it’s about a man breaking into your apartment and raping you.” Night Man. One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
My plans are going out for the night somewhere, so I’ll be catching up on these shows sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I got to work tonight, so I’ll be able to get away from the Phils for a bit. I’ll be home in time for “It’s Always Sunny” but I’ll have to tape My Name is Earl and The Office.

are there other things on TV besides sports? That is great, maybe I’ll check out one of these fine programs you speak of. Probably not though.
Go Cubbies.

ok, a buddy of mine is an employee of the Mets (don’t ask how we’re still friends) and they’ve been advised that MLB has ordered the Mets to play the game tonight under any circumstances. Tomorrow’s game will most likely be postponed with a doubleheader on Saturday.

haha, good stuff. Well it’s not raining yet in NY, so if I had to guess, they’ll start the game ontime and then go through a bunch of rain delays. Pedro and Harden only go 5 innings anyways, so it’ll be a battle of the bullpens.

Battle of the Bullpens? In order for a real battle, you need 2 competitive sides. We all know the Mets pen (If you want to call it that) is uswless, worthless and by and far rediculous…and I’m being nice about that.No battle, the Sisters of Fatima probably have a better pen than the Mets.I for one have as much condidence in them as I have confidence we’ll find Osama bin Laden in New York driving a Taxi.

CSN just gave the weekend weather report (as it applies to the Phils) and guesses that there will be no rainouts in Philly this weekend. There will most likely be delays, but no cancellations, so they say.

The office may be the best show on the air today, along with many of the fx dramas. My Name is Earl is okay, definitely something to watch if there is nothing else on your plate at 8pm.
Super excited about the Office tonight. I have to be up at 2:30am for work, but I am going to stay up until it is over.

don’t forget that there’s a character on the office named ryan howard.
also… there’s a really great article in the new york times today about ryan howard (the baseball player) regaining his swing and putting himself in the mvp race. good read.

This is great:
In a post to his blog for the New York Post, Costello writes about how the Braves celebrated the Mets loss last night, while watching it from their clubhouse in Philadelphia.
According to Costello, as the Cubs scored in the 10th, the Braves began signing ‘Meet the Mets,’ and mocking the Kevin James Lets Go Mets video from Shea Stadium.

PS — Ryan Howard on the office was named after Ryan Howard on the Phils. The character was introduced when RyHo was tearing it up, up there in Scranton. Gotta love it.

Cubs without Derek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Derosa, Soriano and Geovany Soto. They’re basically running out their minor league team.

Haha..I can totally relate to you Tim.
I remember when the Giants were in playoff races and we’d have a day off, but our main competitors were playing crucial games that would no doubt effect the pennant race. I would try not to look at scores and zone out, but it really wasn’t possible. I would spend a little more time at the gym than you’ve already allotted yourself. Just my personal opinion.

I’m reading a book called Radical Brewing which is (so far) a really good history of brewing leading up to a description of techniques and common recipes. After that I’ll watch its always sunny cause that’s been a favorite of mine since the first episode.
No baseball for the first weeknight all month!
