Tonight’s Missive: A Little R&R

Tonight the Phillies aren’t playing.
Good. Do something else.
Seriously. Don’t think about the Phillies. Don’t think about baseball (I know, the Mets and Brewers are both playing, but I don’t care). Do something else.
My plans:
6:30 p.m.: Leave work. Or around that time. I always have loads of work to do, so who knows when exactly I’ll leave, but there you go.
6:40 p.m.: Hit the gym. Run a couple miles, do some minor lifting.
8 p.m.: Arrive home. Make dinner — looks like pasta may be on the menu. Washing it down with a 90-Minute IPA.
9 p.m.: Season premiere of “The Office.” Big dealings at Dunder Mifflin, with Pam and Jim up in the air, and shady stuff going down in the Dwight/Angela/Andy triangle. Does the Phillies thing count since Jim is a huge Phillies fan?
10 p.m.: “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Best show on TV not called “The Office,” and maybe better. Who doesn’t love Charlie? He’s the Wild Card. Damn, another baseball reference. And they’re all Philly sports fans. Damn damn.
11 p.m.: Creative writing. God knows it’ll turn into blog posts anyway.
1 a.m.: Sleep. Big day Friday. Big day.
What’s on your plate?

No, if they lose Friday, they would still be (at worst) tied. They’d use him Sunday on normal rest – if needed. If they have a spot sowed up, they’ll use him for game 1 of the playoffs.

And tonight’s Steve Jeltz award goes to Lou Pinella, for that abortion of a lineup he threw out there tonight in the midst of a pennant race!

Right on George. Now the brewers have bases loaded, two outs in the 10th and Braun up. I don’t feel good about this.

grand slam no less. i’m sure theyre having a big party in Milwaukee. I really hope the cubs come slam them back down to earth.
look i’m thrilled the phils are up 1 game with 3 to play. If you told me at the beginning of the season, I’d take it. But I just don’t have a ton of confidence in Blanton…I’ve never had a good feeling about him since the pickup – is he even happy to be on this team? I just get this feeling sometimes he wishes he was back in the AL on the A’s…

This is great baseball – we’re lucky to be a game up. Right there against the worst team.

I highly doubt that the Nationals are just going to roll over and play dead for the Phillies. They are really annoying and will give the Phillies a run for their money.

Now we have to pitch Hamels on Sunday and screw up our rotation for the play-in games.
There’s now way we’re sweeping the Nats. The Brewers play the Iowa Cubs. Our best hope is that the Marlins come through. A reporter today said that the Marlins “don’t want the Mets in the playoffs and can’t wait to play them this weekend”. So we’ll see how the Mets do against a team that tries.

RiVLez, as will the Marlins for you. And the Marlins are a team that is far more blood thirsty and motivated then the Nationals in my opinion.

Mets Win – Pelfrey is going to break your heart, and why do you have such confidence in Niese? C’mon get real. Santana may not matter on Sunday.
You guys are such idiots. You just beat the Cubs AA farm team tonite.

I am so waiting for Hanley Ramirez to show up Jose Reyes. We all know who is the better shortstop of those two.

perez might get the start for niese.. and wouldnt you be happy if you beat the cubs whether it be their best or worst team at this point in the season?? you’re the idiot, or maybe you are just a little worried.

The Fish own Pelfrey. Niese is garbage. Santana will be wasted by Sunday. The MEts barely beat the Cubs AA team today…they better be prepared against a Marlins team that is out to draw blood.

I think you philly fans are in denial. you act like this is LAST YEAR when we had glavine on the mound… GLAVINE!!! and a lifeless team that began to realize their fate. This is not 2007 GET OVER IT!!!! LETS GO METS!

And Hanley Ramirez isn’t nearly as exciting of a baseball player than Reyes. You’ve seen how Reyes’ numbers have made a significant difference for the team..

Hanley is way better than Reyes you biased f*cking homer.

Mets Win, and you seem to think you have a lead right now. If the Phils go 2 out of 3, the Mets woud have to sweep for the tie against a Marlins team that we saw first hand and you know from experience that LOVES to play spoiler and make both of our lives a living hell.

I completely understand that, believe me i’m scarred for life from last year lol. Look, i’m just glad my team is showing some sort of life out there and not just rolling over like last year. This is definitely going to be an exciting weekend.

I’m really pumped about this weekend! No matter what happens it should be really exciting. But there would be nothing better than to watch Santana blow up on Sunday and piss the Mets playoff chances away!

Mets Win, I sincerely don’t mind if you guys make the playoffs, so good for you if you do. I really only care about the Phils making the playoffs, because no matter how you’re in, it’s fair game from there on out.

Blanton, Moyer, and Hamels

Blanton on Friday, Moyer on Saturday, and Sunday depends if anything is clinched or not. If something is clinched, probably Happ, if Sunday is a clinching day, Hamels.

I like our chances of a sweep this weekend. Blanton is pitching better now that he is over his injury. Moyer will come up clutch and then we can rest Hamels.

I think Pinella only rested tonight because of the rain overall to be honest. I think he’ll step up against the Brewers and the Marlins we know will definitely do what they can to screw everything up.
Just have to take care of our own business and everything will fall into place.

Both the Mets and the Phillies need to watch out that’s the bottom line. Let’s see how everything plays out with these spoiler teams.

Dempster won’t throw more than 75 pitches. He’s going Wednesday for the Cubs.

Well, an encouraging note….Ronnie Belliard is out with a strained groin, who really has been the Phillie killer from the Nationals point of view.

I will be at all 3.
I could be drinking heavily, I hope not as Sunday my grand daughter is coming…
I have read the tie scenarios and dont want to deal with any of it…
This is worse than last year. The Phils are in a position to lose it. Last year they were in a position to win –

Do we really want a Mets-Phillies NLCS? The Phils will have to go up against Johan Santana and they had trouble trying to hit him in each of his starts this year and they will probably have to face Perez and Pelfrey or Martinez in the series too. Given the Phillies losing record against the Mets this year, I am hoping that the Mets wind up winning the Wild Card and get knocked out playing the Cubs in the first round. With the home field advantage and their pitching, I think the Cubs can take the Mets.
