Come on Don join the arguement and someone who from the look of it actually informs his opinions by evidence, it would seem these Mets fans think Jose Reyes is the standout uncontestable best SS in the NL inspite of him ranking very low down in almost every catagory there is to judge how well a position player is fielding his spot…

Lets play a little game here and make it irrelevant of the Phils/Mets: Who’s should win the AL gold glove at short?

And do i think the writers sit down and look at the numbers? Well yes! How else would an emplyed writer and patron of the inside baseball community decide than looking at the evidence, their not blog writers… Were talking about people like Buster Olney who tend to know more about baseball than you or I because they look at the same stuff the teams do… THIS STUFF!

Answer this, would you say on base-percentage is misleading? The stats are not misleading, if a player has a low OBP it means he isn’t getting on base and isn’t getting extra base hits and then you’ll see his average and power numbers way done. For defense the same goes, just because you see Reyes make SOME plays doesn’t mean he’s the best, we see Burrell make plays in left but that doesn’t make him better than Holliday or one of the other LFers who the stats show has fielded the position better.

AND “TRUST ME. I SEE HIM PLAY EVERYDAY.”…. WELL GIVE HIM A METS GOLD GLOVE YOU NARROWMINDED UNIFORMED DOUCHBAG!

Look at it this way: Ryan Howard’s average has been around .230 all year, if not lower. Does that make him a bad hitter? Um, no. That’s because you can’t go strictly by the numbers. So Reyes’ “range factor” and “zone rating” may not be in the top of the pack. But if there was a stat called “spectacular play percentage” Reyes would be at the top of the chart. TRUST ME. I SEE HIM PLAY EVERYDAY.

I grow tired of this argument. Just don’t say you weren’t forewarned that Reyes and Wright will be gold glove winners this year. I’m telling you it’s going to happen and I don’t care what dopey stats you want to throw at me.

Does stepping it up down the stretch superceed someone who’s been doing it all year with less exposure?

1 standout play out of 10 doesn’t make you a gold glover. Do you know what most eligable writers go on? Evidence… They take the major stats and look at where players lie across the board, Reyes sinks to the middle and in some cases llower because he isn’t a gold glover.

He’s a popular flashy short stop who the stats show doesn’t not field balls in the shortstop zone better than Tejada, Greene, Rollins, Escoabar, Izturiz, Ramirez, Guzman, Theiot, Drew

He does not range and make plays to the amount Izturis, Escobar, Hardy, Rollins, Guzman, Ramirez, Tejada, Greene have

Hey has a lower fielding percentage that Rollins, Tejada, Greene, Izturis, Hardy Drew, Escobar (FPCT does not soley factor in errors but also assists and and put outs made)

With that evidance how can you say he’s the best shortstop in the NL just because you watch him? How can you say Tejada or Escobar or Hardy aren’t better…?
