For them, "overpaying" doesn't translate into "wasteful".It was Billy Wagner....or Braden Looper. It was Delgado....or Doug Meinkevitcz (sp?).It was Pedro....or Beltran likely doesn't sign there. Not to mention that the buzz on Pedro's signing helped launch the tv network, and he won 15 games in'05.Worth the extra money, all.You make your money in sports when you sell.Until then, you spend to win. If you can afford a 500 million dollar franchise, you can afford to "give away" an extra 12 million to a player to earn is services.Especially because you aren't even sure if you're giving it away at all.In Wagner's case, it looks like they did.

4 million through the turnstiles, a televison network that prints money, and a new stadium in ’09 allows the Mets to offer these kinds of deals to players. But for the mets this is a good thing. philly fans know in a big spot wagner coughs it up, and they would have not even went after krod is wagner is healthy. We'll see how long that 21- 10 record hold tho

kkkkkkkkk rod is on they way

again nice to see some people take the high road here. Last thing you want is to cheer ill fortune on injuries, because it wouldn't be long before it comes right back and bites us.2) The Mets bullpen has been, for some odd reason, considerably good since he went down. For whatever reason, Wagner made that bullpen more unstable.

Hard to kind of laugh at it for 2 reasons.

1) Karma can be a bitch, especially in sports. It's never good to wish or laugh at another team's injury misfortune because karma always finds a way of catching up with you.So, with Wagner and Maine all but out of the picture for 2008, would it not be like the Phils losing Lidge and Blanton for the stretch run? If that happened, I tend to think most Philly fans would all but write off the season. Just makes it all the more impressive that the Mets continue to maintain their (slim) lead in the division and win big ballgames without some of their major players. That said, it would be a disappointment if the Phils didn't emerge as NL East winners. Outside of Gordon and Jenkins, who weren't that great to begin with, the Phils are pretty much at 100%, while the Mets keep piecing together a competitive starting rotation and bullpen. If the Phils honestly think they're better than the Mets, it's time to put up or shut up, because you no longer have any excuses.

Nice to see many of you taking the high road. His mouth oftentimes writes checks his ass can't cash, but he's a rare breed in that he calls it like he sees it. You have to appreciate honesty sometimes, like someone else noted. However, he plays for the Phils' biggest rival, and I'm happy to see we won't have to deal with him the rest of this season. And that's about as "high" of ground I can give to a Met.

I feel bad for Wagner – he’s a competitor and tough ball player.
