The name to keep track on, obviously, is Donald, who is flat raking down in Mesa. He’s also been playing some third base down there, as the Phils are hoping to get him acclimated to that position. It’s possible Donald could take over the position as early as late 2009. I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald was with the Phils as a backup infielder by midseason.
Slayden has pop, hitting two homers so far. He’s an outside chance at being a fifth outfielder. Brummett and Carpenter are the other ranked prospects, and both had shaky 2008 seasons, with Carpenter even seeing an inning in Philadelphia. Both would likely start 2009 in Lehigh Valley with Overholt and Escalona, looking for a chance to contribute to the big league club.

It’s obvious that they are going to use Donald to replace Feliz at 3rd. They had the deal done with KC at the deadline and it never happened. I think that is a good idea, because we’re seeing how well the internal talent from the Phillies has been working out for them so far.

I am beyond ecstatic with the way our farm system is changing for the better. I’m no expert but feel like it’s a pretty simple process: Draft well and don’t trade away. Our big league club has been good enough to make it so that we don’t have to trade away, and our farm system feels like its stocked for the first time in a while. Let’s keep this pattern up.

Yea i was looking a Donalds stats the other day and was like man i wonder if we can convert this guy to 3rd base because he looks about major league ready and Pedro’s hitting been killing us,like when he had 2 bases load at bats in the game 5 of the NLCS and couldn’t do anything.

Its funny how in the last year everyone was saying how the farm system is depleted (specifically after the Garcia trade). Now, our farm system is stocked. Seems funny how quickly things can turn around.

Sean, I think this most recent draft really changed peoples minds, and the emergence of guys like Donald, Marson, Carrasco, Golson, etc. really gave us some faces and names to associate with the farm system. Not to mention the fact that we’ve kept everyone!
Success breeds success, even in pro sports.

It’s still lacks a true superstar prospect. the farm system is better mostly in lower level. remember there farm system is rated twenty ninth in baseball.
