Blogger Details Dodger Fans’ Abusiveness

Since we’re always bombarded with the reference of Santa Claus in 1962, why not shed light on other unruly fanbases?
No Joshin’ — affiliated with neither the Phillies nor the Dodgers — wrote about his experience in the cheap seats during game three. He attended with his friend, a Phillie fan, who was practically terrorized by Dodger fans. A few other instances are referenced there. Here’s his final take:
“I’ve been to Dodger Stadium before. I’ve had fun there before. But that night has left a severe scar on how I view Dodger Stadium and Dodgers fans. You always hear about Raiders fans at the black hole, or Philadelphia fans booing Santa, or college football rivalries that provide tense moments. But I could have enjoyed my life as a sports fan blissfully unaware of how utterly classless, thoughtless, and gutless some of the Dodgers fans act.”
Just sad. Hopefully one day the media realizes practically every fanbase does this kind of crap, and it’s not just Philadelphia.

I said it before in an earlier post. My best friend flew from Virginia to LA for NLCS Game 3. He was physically assaulted at the game. He was wearing a blue 1980s style throwback jersey with Utley’s name.
One fan grabbed him by the shoulder while the other fan hit him in the rib cage, only to run away simply because he was wearing Phillies gear. And this was after the game was over on the way out.
He said him and other Phillies fans there were abused not only verbally, but physically as well. He said a lot of Phillies fans were getting attacked at Dodgers Stadium.
It makes me sick that stuff like this doesn’t get reported. Had it been in Philly, it would be all over the news, Sportscenter, and then give more ridiculous fodder for Joe Buck to spew his Anti-Philly Venom during the broadcasts.

Wow. Phillies fans always get ripped but the truth is it happens everywhere. Philly is always targerted. You get good and bad fans everywhere.

Honestly… this is the risk you run anytime you go to an opposing stadium wearing your teams gear.
And it happens in every stadium… I’m sure there are wonderful stories from Dodgers fans about terrible treatment from Games 1 and 2 from this series..
When we were in Chicago.. we had bleacher seats on Sunday, and I wore a shirt with the Cubs logo on it… the only thing different about it was that there was a picture of the famous Goat banging the Cubbie Bear from behind, and above the logo it said ‘Every team has a bad century…right?”
I was ready to get in fights that day, not because I wanted to but because I know how most fans are.. to their credit no Cubs fans bothered me at all, and most fans laughed about it and told me it was awesome.
I was at Shea once… with a Phillies jersey, and didn’t hear or see anything out of the norm.
That said, the fact that it was just one fan, and from the sounds of this story, he wasn’t being obnoxious or anything.. that really is a sad state of sports in LA.. the story should have started with the empty seats all around them.. which were later filled by these drunk fans…

Here’s where I found links to all this stuff. It was from 700Level.
Watch the YouTube video and that will help give you an idea.

Like i’ve said before… its just lazy journalism.. these guys are paid to fill columns.. or to fill air-time.. and its so much easier for them to report about the terrible Philadelphia fans.. and then spew off 500 words, or 5 minutes of stories about all the things that happened before..
Don’t think too much into it

So many of my friends are from North Jersey, including my girlfriend. They love to rag on me all the time and go into rants about how obnoxious Philly fans are, etc. I get it repeatidly.
I was out to dinner with my girlfriend over the weekend in North Jersey wearing my Phillies hoodie. We ran into one of my good friends from college with her parents. Her parents started going on the offensive and critisizing me for my hoodie (and they’re Yankees fans). I also received a lot of dirty looks.
But the thing is, nothing ever gets physical. It is all verbal taunting. I heard many stories out of Dodgers Stadium in the NLCS, and the majority were physical. That is what sickens me.

I know a lot of people on here have been pretty annoyed with Joe Buck during the national broadcasts of the games thus far for his bias and whatnot.
I just thought I’d let you all know that he’s going to be on Eskin today on WIP just in case any of you want to give a call in and let him know what you think of his broadcasting skills.

I am glad to see this brought to light. My sister and I are full season ticket holders for the Phillies. Section 144 Row 1. Anyone out there knows how brutal the crowd can be out there not only to opposing teams left fielders but to opposing teams fans as well. Usually it is kept pretty civil and without vulgarity and threats. My sister moved to San Diego this past Christmas and has been missing the playoffs badly so she bought tickets to last evenings Game 3 in LA. She wore an Utley Shirt and her friend wore a Kelly Green Tug McGraw jersey. She said they sat there and kept to themselves, barely even cheering out loud when the Phillies did something good. In return they got flipped off at least 4 times by another female Dodgers fan and told to eff off! Then they got heckeled up and down from the bathrooms, which is fine, but then a guy stepped into the isle, blocking them, and point right at them and said, “You effing bitches should go the eff home!” These verbal attacks continued all night. I spoke to my sister after the game hoping to hear her excited and instead all I heard were these stories and that she almost didn’t have fun and almost wished she had stayed in San Diego to watch it on TV. That’s ridiculous! I get it if they were guys and mouthing off to the Dodger fans then maybe, but never should anyone use vulgarity and physical threats. I get really upset when I hear women getting crap and especially so when its my sister. General heckeling is part of the game but it should never be personal, keep it about the teams. Sorry for the long post, had to vent a bit about this!

pure and simple certain teams fans especially the Dodger fans could throw broken bottles at the opposing team in the field or something explosive into the opposing dugout and it would be considered enthusiastic fanship. It was disgraceful how they were booing Vic and Utley with no prior cause, you can understand it when there’s bitter history but Utley turning them down to go to college and Vic being let go as a rule 5 is hardly JD Drew territory.

My wife and I went to a Nationals game last year. It was the last at RFK stadium. We’re pretty laid, back chill people. Even at Phillies home games it’s just a lot of standing and clapping. I don’t even know how to boo and would likely feel stupid doing it.
So the Nats game; we’re losing, home team is winning. They’ve been a team for like 2 years at this point so where they get this hooligan attitude from is beyond me. The curses never stopped, we had shit thrown at us, some a-hole a few seats down kept screaming over to us that the Eagles were losing while listening to his transistor radio (in fact he was lying, the Eagles killed the Lions that day), just all around not a fun day. Since then I avoid at all costs going to other teams stadiums and even avoid home Phillies games that I know will have drama (ie. coming inches from blows with a bunch of loser Mets fans at the Bank who thought it would be fun to come and pick a fight).
I don’t think this stuff doesn’t happen in Philly, but it happens everywhere and if the mainsteam media addressed that this happens at Yankee and Dodger Stadium just as much as it happens in Philly or Cleveland maybe MLB would be more motivated to stop it. They like to just say “Oh, you know the Philadelphia crowd” and act like going to Fenway is a family day at the park.
One of my favorite moments this year was when the Reds came to Philly and Ken Griffey was stuck at 599. There was a dude in a Reds jersey sitting right in front of us. He was a big dude but you could tell he was on edge the entire game just waiting for that Philly welcome. Griffey gets put in as a pinch hitter, the entire crowd goes nuts and gives him a standing ovation. He walks (the crowd boo’d Myers for walking him) and Phillies fans started high fiving the Reds fan and he seemed to lighten up and enjoy the rest of the game. That’s how it should be.
I will be at Game 5 tomorrow in L.A. Not looking forward to it at all.

You are at a game and someone is standing up in front of you. You would do the same thing. He deserve to get beat up. not for being a phillies fan. But for his ignorance to others watching the game.

Because I will happen to be in LA that day and I want to watch my team take a shot at going to the World Series. It doesn’t mean that I want to get pelted with french fries and be called a faggot for 9-innings by some over weight fair-weather loser who is going to post clips of me on YouTube.

Utley not signing is different than Drew? Both were drafted and didn’t get what they thought they deserved .they both didn’t sign what is different.

RedSoxFan, nobody deserves to get beat up for rooting on your team. You mean to tell me no fan stands up at Fenway or Red Sox attending games as visitors will stand and clap when their team is doing well. In case you didn’t notice, that YouTube video was in the 8th inning when the Phillies pulled ahead. It was a time to stand up and cheer. If it bothers you, then you politely say “can you please sit down, we can’t see.”
You don’t throw water bottles and grab him by the back of the shirt to pull him down.
Also, Utley didn’t sign because he wanted to go to college and get an education.
Drew didn’t sign because him and his agent refused to sign with the Phillies out of spite.
How is that the same to you?

I believe that Philly fans are the greatest in the world. As you all know, I dropped the first puck for the Philadelphia Flyers this past weekend. The media warned that I would get boo’ed, but all I could hear was loud music drowning out the crowd, whom I assume were clapping for me.

Redsoxfan, I have no idea what that just meant so I have no idea how you want me to respond. You can call me gay on the internet all you want.
Hope your team can keep the Rays under 10 runs tonight, ok?

Good burn Mutley. I think it’s hilarious that this troll is over here trashing the Phillies for some reason which I don’t understand, and his team isn’t even up in his own series. I think he has other things to worry about.

No to get off the subject, but it goes with the theme of this post: After this series, win or lose, can we please have some of the local sports guys take to task this dolt of the LA times, TJ Silers, I think his name is? I’ve read a few of his articles over the last week, and I really would love to know why he even has a sports writing job, if he reports on no actual sports content and just dogs a winning team and their fan base. I only hope at the end of this series he and Joe Buck are drying each others eyes while we continue the post season…..

Alright guys, a little off topic here. I go to Drexel, my buddy goes to UNC Wilmington. If the Phils make the WS, he’s flyng up to stay with me for the weekend that the Phils would have their home games. Air fare keeps rising as the days pass. Is it bad luck for him to buy his plane ticket today? If you guys say don’t do it, I’ll make sure that he waits until (knock on wood) we clinch.

people used to like RedSox fans… now we all hope they get rocked by the Rays and everyone’s favorite GM, Theo Epstein is falling out of favor cause he has holes all over the place, which with a payroll like that should never happen
I’m so glad that the national media doesn’t want a Phillies-Rays World Series. because those are the two teams I am rooting for.. like I said last week.. it would be a BASEBALL WORLD SERIES.. If I wanted a DRAMA SERIES, I would watch TNT.
Anyone that calls someone “gay” over the internet is obviously a really cool, big, tough dude..

I actually started rooting for the Red Sox in the AL a few years back when:
A) I was sick of seeing the Yankees win so much.
B) They got Curt Schilling, one of my all time favorites.
Looking at it now, the “Red Sox Nation” is just the new evil empire. They have a mini dynasty going, and it seems like all teams that achieve stable success for a few years wind up this way. With the great core of young players we have now, I just hope we as Phillies fans don’t lose sight of how to be good sports fans and citizens as we start racking up the wins. :)

Joe Buck couldn’t talk because he had lots of ORAL going on in his mouth.. both Manny and Herschiser I think

Just to clairfy, I never stopped being a Phillies fan, and of course in the brief period where I backed the Sox, I would always of course oull for my Phils in a contest between the two.

Buck is just pissed he isnt calling the Boston Games. Those 2 morons who are callig the Boston series are sucking up to Boston fanbase so much.
Kazmir could throw a no hitter and they would talk about how Boston is smart to get Kazmirs pitch count so high so he might be tired for his next start.
On the fanbase, Boston is no better then Phils fans. Except when they curse they are wearing Cashmere expensive shirts and have that AWFUL accent. Where as in Philly it is a guy cursing and rocking a phillies shirt.
All passionate fans are going to get worked up at a game, however physical violence is unnessacary, LA is just a classless city, with half hearted fans who arrive in the 3rd and leave in 7th

J.D. drew didn’t sign out of sprite. are you serious. He wanted to be payed top dollar, The phillies are cheap and wouldn’t pay him. If anyone here goes to games and can tell me that if someone stands up like that guy did. They wouldn’t start with him. he just was a jerk to keep it up and block other people’s view. I know phillies fans are always right so you will defend any jerk, what losers. In this years draft we payed out bonus that were 128 percent over that others did.mutley sorry bad attempt at humor.

JD Drew is horribly overrated also. He is Ben Sheets but a fielder.
When he plays he is very good, but is always hurt.

RedSoxFan, $10 million to a rookie unproven draft pick?
That is greedy spite, not being cheap.
And overpaying for players is not something to brag about. It is kind of funny that the Red Sox have become everything they have hated: The Yankees 2.0. Overspend a ridiculous amount of money to get an overinflated payroll, only to find yourself losing out to a team that has a payroll a small fraction of what yours is.
I can’t believe you are actually holding Drew up like a saint and critisizing some guy standing and clapping when his team performs well at a game. I never knew that standing and clapping is the cardinal sin of sports and deserves physical assaulting.
How about this? How about we come to Fenway and when you stand and clap for your team, we beat the crap out of you? Sound fair?
Seriously, what happened to how humble you guys used to be? You win 2 World Series and all of the sudden you strut like the kings of the world?

Apparently according to Dodgers fans and Mr. Red Sox Fan here, it is totally cool for everyone to stand and cheer for their team, unless you’re a Phillies or Yankees fan. Then you should get beaten up without warning. Passive aggressive they are, aren’t they?

I guess it’s the price we pay for a great winning team. People are so jealous of us. They say winning is everything, it’s the only thing.By the way If the phillies by some miracle clinch the pennant. I will be on broad and shunk with my drew jersey.

So you’re saying we’re jealous of being a complete a total arrogant asshole like yourself? Wow, that’s pompous of you to say.
Then again, if it makes you feel better to wear your Red Sox jersey, be my guest. That still doesn’t change what’s happening on the field.
By the way, how are you Red Sox doing right now in the ALCS? They have a lead, yes?

You’ll get your Drew jersey covered in beer… and hopefully it’s a navy-blue jersey, because it’ll match the new shiners under your eyes.
If I were you, I would walk my nerdy ass into oncoming traffic!
