Jamie Moyer, This Is Your Life

Tonight is Jamie Moyer’s first career World Series start, and for all purposes, the absolute most important start of his 22-year career.

Sure, hyperbole is in order here, and if the series goes to seven games, that final game will likely be the most important start of his career, long as he starts it. But here and now, this is the moment for which Moyer has waited his entire career:

“It’s something that I’ve been dreaming about my whole life.”

Let’s be real here: This is the guy who, as a 17-year-old, attended the only parade down Broad Street for the Phillies. He’s the local boy, the hoagie lover, the beer drinker, the skinny map-faced grizzler. If anyone should be starting the first game of the series in Philly, it’s Moyer. Despite his poor pitching to start his postseason, he’s earned this. And I believe very truly that he’ll pitch his best baseball tonight. When you mention “destiny,” this is what you mean — not some 11-year-old franchise that only became good this season, but a player whose career is twice as long and whose dreams are much more storybook.

Tonight, Moyer meets destiny.

Great Story. And at least he and Matt Stairs will get introduced today! I have a semi good feeling about today’s game. Moyer is going to pitch very well tonight and Ryan Howard will get his HR on. If anybody has a facebook check out this group!

    Moyer’s gonna hit 4 HR tonight and Howard’s gonna throw a two-hitter.

    TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

Moyer skipped school in 1980 to go to the World Series parade. Now, he is pitching in it.

And, for anybody who wasn’t born yet or whatever in 1980 to witness the World Series, or if you just wanna see it again, you can watch Game 6 of the 1980 World Series on the CW Philly today at 3:00 PM.

Hopefully something similar can happen in ’08.

    GO PHILS!

If i quit my job now and got in the car, I could make it to the Bank by first pitch…..

….. it would be so worth it.

I really hope he does well tonight. It’ll be really hard to watch if he’s getting hit around again tonight. There’s nothing like watching a Moyer gem though, very enjoyable.

In philly now….. I checked the weather and it does NOT look good. It should be raining now, not later tonight…

I’m also watching the 1980 WS game on tv. Pretty awesome.

Those of you close to the park, how’s the weather looking? Still like the rain is going to let up just before the game?

Thanks for the updates…the radar makes it look like the rain near the park will be intermittent, so that’s good. It looks like the worst of it is northwest.

Jamie will bring his A game tonight, providing a quality start. He has Phillie blood in him, and deserves this.

Re the rain; I think they’ll play if it’s light, steady rain. I really hope we play tonight… I’n really worried of the possibility of our team playing 5 straight games — especially since we don’t have much depth in our rotation… Oh well

I watched Jamie Moyer pitch in Seattle for 10 years. I always liked him. He and his family still live in Seattle. Even though I am not a Phillies fan, I will be rooting for them tonight! Go Jamie!
