Game 1 : National League Championship Series
Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies
Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
8:22 p.m. / 63, clear
Derek Lowe (14-11, 3.24 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (14-10, 3.09 ERA)
Cole Hamels suits up and takes the mound in game one of a best-of-seven to determine champion of the National League. He’ll be opposed by 35-year-old right-hander Derek Lowe, who went 3-0 in four starts in the 2004 postseason, and is 6-4 in 19 postseason appearances.
It’s the first NLCS at Citizens Bank Park, the first series of its kind for the Phillies in 15 years, and just the seventh NLCS appearance in franchise history.
News & Notes
Only three Phillies have hit home runs off Lowe: Pedro Feliz, Matt Stairs and Chris Coste. … Matt Kemp and Juan Pierre (.333) are the only Dodgers hitting over .250 against Hamels. … Of the seven NLCS appearances in franchise history, the Phils have met the Dodgers in four of them. … The Dodgers pitching staff gave up just 123 home runs in 2008, tops in baseball. … They also gave up just 259 doubles, also tops in baseball. … Despite the great starting pitching ERA, the Dodgers had 79 quality starts, good for 14th in baseball. The Phillies were fifth (88). … Regular lineup tonight — funny, the Opening Day lineup has come full circle.
The Lineup
Jimmy Rollins / SS
Shane Victorino / CF
Chase Utley / 2B
Ryan Howard / 1B
Pat Burrell / LF
Jayson Werth / RF
Pedro Feliz / 3B
Carlos Ruiz / C
Cole Hamels / P
Your Gamenight Beer
It’s October. Time for Harpoon Octoberfest. A refreshing blend of caramel and hops, its — I sound like a commercial. Listen, it’s a good beer. Drink up, Phillies fans. It’s the NLCS. It’s here. Let’s watch intently and be the best fans we can be. Enjoy in the company of many, and eat party food: wings, chips, etc. Or, if you’re at the park (why are you reading this?), eat a Dodger fan. That’ll show ‘em.
Go Phillies!

You posted this blog prematurely. Game time isn’t for 2 and a 1/2 hours. I can’t f*cking wait. I got a 6 pack of “blackbeary” beer and a growler of Dock Street “Docktoberfest” ready to go. GO PHILS!

I’ve got some Sierra Nevada Anniversary, and my Dodger friend coming over to watch the game with me. I hope in a few hours I’ll be the one crowing!

F*ck NCAA basketball. October baseball is the most exciting thing in sports every year. More exciting than the super bowl, march madness, and the NBA finals. Post season hockey is a close 2nd, but I’d still take October baseball over anything.

LA swept the Cubs, including two at Wrigley Field. Sweet.
Philadelphia spent all year playing BEHIND the Mets, and was often close with Florida, the lowest-paid team in the league.
They couldn’t even sweep the hapless Brewers in the NLDS. That’s just sad.
Just like fans of the woeful Cubbies, I suspect the “front runners” at whatever Philly’s new ballpark is called will be crying in their Coors tonight, and for the next three games as well.
LA in four!

Go Blue…you are so dumb you don’t even know how to type the acronym NLCS properly. The Cubs are post season choke artists. If you watched baseball at all you’d know the team with the best record in baseball history didn’t win the WS. You can’t judge anything on how good a team is. Secondly, we never chased Florida. Only the 1st month. You spent most of the year chasing the D-Backs who were horrible. It took you 2 big trades to catch them, one of those trades being for the best hitter of our time. Don’t come to a Phillies board and talk sh*t you moron.
I posted that in another thread. I’d like to add that we beat CC Sabathia who is better than any pitcher the Dodgers have, we don’t drink Coors because that’s a white trash Republican beer(read the beers we post for gameday on this site to get an idea), and the Rays are the 2nd lowest paid team in baseball, so you should really think about things before you say them. The Dodgers spent the season playing the worst trash in the NL all year to barely have a .500 record. Stop saying the dumbest things possible on here. Go troll somewhere else.

haha true JM. If the Marlins were playing in the NL West they would have had a record of 100-62.

Mine as well break this down for his futile little mind too.
RuizLoney
Utley>DeWitt
Rollins=Furcal
FelizLowe
Myers=Billingsley
Moyer=Kuroda
Blanton=Kershaw
Phils pen=Dodgers pen
Lidge>Broxton
I’d say it’s kind of a wash, but he can keep trying to say the Phillies suck if he’d like.

“…I’d like to add that we beat CC Sabathia who is better than any pitcher the Dodgers have…”
Better than Derek Lowe (15-11, 2004 WS ring-wearer)?
2008 NLDS Game one winner?
Soon-to-be NLCS game One winner?

We also didn’t spend most of the year chasing the Mets – we spent the most days in first place.

Go Blue, you obviously haven’t paid attention all year. The Phillies were in first place for 70+ games this season in a division with 2 other difficult teams in the Mets and Marlins.
Past wins don’t make any impact on what happened this season.
Then again, most opposing trolls who talk smack here really don’t pay attention to begin with.

Yes, Go Blue. CC Sabathia is WAY better than Derek Lowe.

Go Fightin’s !!! Let’s be patient, get some guys on base, and wait for that sinker to stay belt-high… gotta make it count with small-ball and runners in scoring position!!

I hope that Milt taught these guys how to bunt and move runners over. I am so sick of this disgraceful lack of small ball.

It’s funny how the past few years, since the Phillies have become competitive, I’ve learned to hate the fans of almost every other team out there. I’ve always had nice things to say about Dodgers fans, Red Sox fans — long standing fan bases with tradition and a true appreciation for the game. Now that the Phillies actually win games all of the front running internet homos come out of the woodwork to talk goofy shit on messageboards.
Where are all the Rays fans in this joint? Is the trolling only limited to teams that have New Era’s in 12 different colorways and you see in hip-hop videos?

All I can say to you Phillies phans….good luck with the Dodgers.Also,I can’t believe Dodgers and Red Sox fans are talking smack.Blue,just remember…….the NL East with the Amazins and Anchovies made it a tough division to win,and the NL West was a virtual joke,everyone knows that. All 3 teams in the NL East didn’t trade for an impact player like CC and Manny Baseball.If Both Dodgers and Brewers didn’t get CC or Manny,Dodgers and Brewers fans would be sitting home with nothing to say. Red Sox fans,worry about the Rays b4 killing the Phils.
