Todd Zolecki reported in his notebook that the Phillies claimed former Marlins relief pitcher Scott Nestor off waivers, and released reliever Francisco Rosario.
Nestor, 23, went 1-1 with a 7.44 ERA in 61.2 innings with AAA Albuquerque. The righty has been making a steady ascension to the majors, with an approximately 2:1 K:BB ratio and close to a hit per inning. He was originally offered to the Phillies in exchange for Wes Helms, but the Phils neglected, deciding not to pay $1.8M of Helms’ salary at the time.
Rosario spent 26.1 innings with the Phillies in 2007, scoring a 5.47 ERA as part of a revolving bullpen. He spent all of 2008 on the disabled list. Nestor took Rosario’s place on the 40-man roster and will likely join the Florida Instructional League.

you know, i have been wondering about rosario for months. his injury didn’t sound that serious in april. remember when he was actually in contention for the 5th spot?

I thought Rosario got TOMMY JOHN this year… ?? He threw hard, and had potential, but was very wild at times.. I dont know jack sh1t about this guy, but I know that Rosario wasn’t the answer to any additional bullpen-prayers

Looking at Scott Nestor’s stats, it looks like he has a lot of strikeouts, but also gives up a lot of walks. He seems to have command issues but is probably a hard thrower. So basically he is a younger/healthy version of Rosario.

Just read about this guy. Fastball sits easily at 94-96, problem is he really doesnt have anything else. He is working on a curve that is not very good. To me sounds like a future Madson, hard throwing right hander who depends on a fastball.
I really dont have a problem with this trade.

Good move, it’s nice seeing the organisation get agressive with the guys going to LV and you never know what you’ll develop from there (or be really disappointed with- Blackley).
