Ruiz Has Picked Up His Game

While we sigh about the tough way game two played out, we can laud one Phillie hitter for his great play. Carlos Ruiz, written off practically all season for his weak offense, has been a true star this postseason. Check these numbers out:
NLCS: 5-for-16, RBI, 3 R, BB
World Series: 2-for-5, RBI, R, 3 BB, SB
I’ll take those numbers any day from my eight-hole hitter. He was the only hitter consistently giving good at bats last night, and his two leadoff doubles could’ve ignited rallies. When he does this, it’s up to Jimmy Rollins to get him home; right now, one worry is not the guy behind the plate.

Not to mention his ability to call a game has been superb and he catches Lidge’s slider in the dirt like a champ.

ruiz stealing second late in the game during a jimmy rollins strikeout was a brilliant move too, it’s just too bad they couldn’t capitalize on it

One of the only bright spots from last night. Ruiz had really good approaches to his at bats, fouled stuff off, and then drove the ball hard when he got his hits.

I never thought I would say this, but I will, “Ruiz has potietial to be a Fantastic Catcher years to come, with his great defense and key offense.”

Without a doubt he’s the best caller of a game on the team.
When Coste is catching i’m always a little nervous.

I think Ruiz just may be the player most taken for granted on this team, especially thruout the season. There’s no statistic that can really quantify his value to the pitching squad, like he seems to know when he needs to go out to the mound for a little chat with the pitcher, instinct like that is immeasurable. I’ve been a fan of his all year, because, ironically, my big concern early on was the pitching.

Tim,
I am a student at American University in DC and a resident of Abington, Pa, just north of Philly.
I was wondering, will there will be another watching party at the Capitol Lounge for tomorrow night’s game? Thanks

Ruiz has been picking his game up, but you have to take into account that yesterday he was getting the bonus being the 9 hole hitter during a Myers start. That spot just has some magic to it this postseason.

Not sure Michael, as I’m not in the DC area. Brian Michael usually handles that. Post that in the Phillies Bars section on the left-hand rail of the page. You should get a response there.

The Phils will win in six and Carlitos will be the MVP. I got that feeling after his second double last night. Go Fightins!

Ruiz has to make you feel really good about Marson getting the time he needs to become the next top young catcher. Have no problem going into next year wih Ruiz as the starter, yes he struggled this year with the bat and the play-off consistency may be merely an irregular hot streak but he’s really stepped up in so many other ways while others faded into the background.
In game 2 he was the only guy in the line-up who had that ‘your going to have to work hard to get me out’ attitutde at the plate.
