According to a press release, Mitch Williams will throw the first pitch before today’s game.
Hat tip to James Beale.
Wow. Mitch has gained back a bit of popularity with the fanbase, but this is a gutsy call. The Phils really want to chase those ghosts away.

He’ll get booed by me. Dude is responsible for a terrible 1990s and 3rd grade for me.

No big deal. If we believed in curses we’d be as pathetic as Cubs fans… Bring Mitch. Hell, bring Joe Carter. It won’t matter! Go Phils!!!

I always liked Mitch. Even though he always made me nervous… the guy never backed down from anyone, and always manned up for his mistakes.
I hope his first pitch is WAAAAY out of the strike zone. That would be fitting.

I wish there was just a camera on the Phanatic the whole time.. he is seriously my favorite player on the Phillies.. he’s just too A-D-D to stay focused on the field

Mitch had a good NLDS so as long as he stays away from the firled after this series I’m fine with it

I got word Curt Schilling will be at the game, and will sit in the dugout with a towel on his head during the first pitch.

I would have preferred someone from the 1980 team, not that there’s anything wrong with Mitch, other than the fact that he blew the ws, but just better karma there.
Julie, how can you even hint that Phila fans believe in curses and stuff? Who’s Billy Penn?

Freakin’ Awesome honor for Mitch Williams, the guy did have years that most relivers, and some closers, would kill for.

I remember a nice fall evening in 1993… just off of work, I sat in my car and listened on the radio as Mitch lost the world series. To this day I have never seen the replay of it… it still breaks my heart to think about it.
The only thing that would make me happy to see him in our new ball park is if he stood on the pitchers mound and 45,000 fans stoned him to death with baseballs before the game.

Williams may have lost it in ’93, but he also did his damndest to get them there. Personally, time healed all wounds.

i was there earlier this year for the game against the rockies where they scored 20 runs, and my friend decided he was going to wear his powder blue “blue jays” jersey he just bought. as we’re walking around the concourse, i look over, and who is standing there but mitch. i begged my friend to ask to get a picture with him, but he didn’t want to risk getting pounded… though that would’ve made the story way awesomer.
