Myers is 2-0 with a 5.25 ERA in the postseason, with a bunch of runs coming off the bat of Manny Ramirez. … Shields is 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in the postseason. … Phillies hitters haven’t seen much of Shields, besides Matt Stairs, who has just three hits off him in 20 at bats. One was a home run. … Brett Myers hasn’t seen the Rays, either, but has faced Cliff Floyd a bunch. The lefty is 12-for-33 against Myers with three home runs. … The Rays hit .267 against right-handed pitching, while just .246 against lefties. … The Rays hit just .230 against “power” pitchers, of which Myers could be described as. Against “finesse” pitchers, the Rays rake at .280. … Greg Dobbs is your designated hitter, while Pedro Feliz plays third base, mainly because of the turf.

Why didn’t they go with Stairs for the DH? Since he was a DH with the Blue Jays, he is more experienced as a DH than Dobbs.

There’s really not a lot to being a DH, and in fact, that could suit Dobbs, as all he’s doing is preparing for his batting spot each time.

Tim, very good point. Stairs may have been a DH before, but Dobbs sits around all game waiting for his one at bat. Now he’ll just get to do that a few times, it’s almost like pinch hitting 4 times in one game for him.

I was at the game last night and it was absolutely nuts….a rays fan actually threw a cow bell at me….great win for the Phightin’ Phils ….and we’re definitely at a disadvantage since brett won’t be hitting….. GO PHILS!!

I saw an interesting article from Bill Madden in todays NY Daily News regarding the NL East.He spoke with Pat Gillick and he basically backhandedly thanked the Mets because the teams in the NL East hate the dancing and theatrics of the Mets and how the other teams always got a rise when playing them.Now not taking anything away from the Phils,I tend to question did the rest of the NL East teams caddilac (Or however its spelled) or really try their Damnest vs the Phillies?

lol,I think everyone forgot about the Amazins.However when I saw what was said by an outgoing GM in Pat Gillick,that wasn’t cool.We know the Mets blew it,and if the rest of the NL East had a hard on to beat the Mets,than they should have found a way to win…..they DIDN’T bottom line.And now its 104 days till pitchers and catchers.Hot Stove League can’t come soon enough.
