Wanted: Jason Donald

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times says the Mariners should explore a trade for Phillies infield prospect Jason Donald. He writes:
“Donald, 24, was a standout on the Olympic team, has excelled in the minors, and is said by scouts to be ready for a big-league job.
But as a middle infielder in the Phillies’ organization, he’s buried behind Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. Donald is playing some third base in the Arizona Fall League (where he’s tearing up the league at .459 in 18 games), but probably doesn’t have the power to play the position in the majors.”
Stone fails to cite the Phils have power at a non-power position (second base). In his notebook, David Murphy spoke to Ruben Amaro Jr., who said having Donald play third is a contingency for the hot hitter. Scott Boras, Donald’s agent, added he doesn’t think Donald will be moved this season.
Back to the M’s. I don’t know who the Mariners have under contract that would be appealing to the Phillies. Unless the M’s want to revisit an Erik Bedard trade, the only name that says anything to me is Adrian Beltre, but he hasn’t played a lick of outfield in his career.
I wouldn’t mind throwing Donald out there for trade possibilities. But the Mariners just aren’t the right partner.

If the Mariners want him bad how about straight up for King Felix????
Nahhhh, the Mariners would probably have to throw in a prospect also.
BUt seriously, Scott Boras knows how to pick’em I tell ya. I wonder how well your team would be if you had an ALL Boras team?
I agree Marniers have nothing exciting.

Has anyone seen the latest rumor on MLB trade rumors? They said that the A’s, and the Phillies are the front runners in the Holliday trade. They also said that the Rockies are aware that they wont get much in return for him. Were all aware that Holliday is going to be a free agent after 09, but atleast he would play an entire season, and not picked up in the middle of the season. It’s not like we wouldn’t have the money to re-sign him at the end of the season either.

Never been a fan of Bedard, too many injuries throughout his career, although when he is healthy, he can be nasty.
I’d like to see Donald at third base in a few years. I have a feeling that Dobbs will be our left fielder next season, and we will be in need of a backup 3B, and i think that’s how donald can help the team next year.

The rumor Chris I is that the A’ are willing to give up Cardenas, Cahill and Outman for Holiday.

I wish they would give Donald a shot in the majors sometime early next year to see what he’s like…Give him a shot at 3B and see how he does because we need a 3B that can hit and Pedro’s contracts up after next season i think.

The Mariners may be looking to trade J.J. Putz. He’s good when healthy, but that’s not a certainty.

What about prospect trading? An in demand prospect at short is a great commidity on the trade market though at 24 there’s a clock on Donald and there might be guys in the Mariners system we like for a guy they consider major league ready.

J-Man: Feliz’s contract runs out after 2009, but there’s a 2010 option. Phils would have to buy him out if they decline.

I would absolutely love to see Marson and Donald in the majors this season together. Not only are they the next generation of phillies hitters, but they are both offensive upgrades.
Ruiz has earned the starting gig, but Marson could catch 1-2 games a week and donald can platoon at third.
If we do both of that, we might be able to live with less offense at LF, which we might have to anyway.

I’d like to find out what we have in Donald. He has some of the same intangible qualities Utley does. Not saying he has the power but he’s tough and gritty and has some leadership. People talked about trading both Utley and Howard and they might try to move Donald to third so the Utley and Rollins are ahead of him thing might not be a concern.

He has earned time, Philadelphia should take the opportunity to trade one of the top prospects in the nation for somebody they will use. It is unfortunate that his talent is being wasted behind one of the best middle infields in the bigs. There isn’t any reason for him to continue in the minors–how about San Diego?
