I am confident in the ‘pen as is. Like everyone else is saying, there is a pretty solid farm system in place here, but don’t give up a draft pick for a bullpen piece. I am still not a Condrey fan, he came up big in spots, but he also crumbled other times. Just wait and see what there will be without losing too much.

I am over Coste, he was a great story, he has a ring, but he doesn’t give much options other than Ruiz is tired…

Correct me if I am mistaken, but wasn’t Burrell a third baseman until the pros? He was scouted from 3b, right? I think a team may even throw a number at him for a first base position, that is why it’s going to be tough to see him back here. With all that said, Atkins in left.

I think our bullpen is set and should not be the priority. This looks pretty good to me:
9th: Lidge
8th: Madson/Romero
6th/7th: Eyre/Durbin/Condrey/Romero
Longman: whoever doesn’t make the rotation-Happ, Kendrick, Eaton?
Throw in some minor-leaguers here and there as needed if guys get hurt, and this is a nice bullpen. If we can sign a vet for cheap without giving up draft picks, then sure, but that should not be the focus. Left field and starting pitching are both more important.

I was thinking last year that Werth could be the everyday LF… BUT, RF is the more difficult defensive position, and he has very good range, and a GREAT arm out in RF, so there is no reason to move Werth from right, unless his replacement is better.. Almost anyone would be better defensively than Burrell in LF, so you’d be better right away.

They desperately need a RH bat in the outfield though.. since Stairs, Jenkins, Dobbs…. are …not …RH (you learn something everyday!)

I actually really like Milton Bradley’s skill set, but am afraid of his attitude disturbing the clubhouse. I love Atkins though for the right price.

Atkins would be a nice fit but it’s tough to see how we match up on a deal though I can’t tell if Atkins has another gear, utlimately short of Rivera I’m expecting the Phils to pick-up a RFer and make Werth the everyday LFer.

If you could sign Cruz to be a mutlipurpose middle reliever then that’s as good a move as the Giants made on Affeldt, that guys not dropping down the pecking order unless the money’s that damn good he can’t turn it down but who’s going to pay multi-year market value unless your bringing the guy in to set-up?

Atkins is like a career .300 hitter, and he’s always 20+ HR and 100 RBIs… he’s WAY better than Feliz with the bat, BUT.. I’m a huge fan of Feliz’s glove so I don’t want him to leave.

But if Burrell leaves they need to do something besides adding Kevin Mench or something like that

Atkins may have a slight edge offensively over Feliz but Pete Happy is a far superior defender. Atkins would be a nice fit in LF for us. Cruz would be a solid option for 6th and/or 7th but not sure if I would want to waste a pick on him. Plus, why wouldn’t the D’Backs resign him? He had pretty solid numbers and their bullpen needs some work. If the DBacks don’t pursue him, I would be leery considering the dearth of talent on the market.

Th emore I think about it, I’d be OK with giving up a 1st rounder for a Starting Pitcher or OF but not for a reliever. Why not let Bisenius or someone within go for this spot.

Also what is everyone’s take on Robinson Tejada? He did ok once he left Texas. Maybe we could trade for him and try him as another right-handed option.

I’d have to admit that I think Coste is past his prime at the majoe league level… BUT… i’d expect him to be on the roster this season, because unless/until Marson or someone is ready to overtake Carlos Ruiz.. there is no need to have future catcher sitting on the bench at the big league level, instead of playing full-time and developing in the minors.. (same thoughts I had about Golson)

If Marson hits .400 in Spring Training.. and impresses defensively, I think he makes the team.. otherwise, we’ll most likely see Coste again.

3b- Garret Atkins is a name that i’ve heard again lately.. would add power from the RH side of the plate, but Im not really sure what kind of glove he has.. if Burrell departs, the phillies will need to get creative and add someone legit from the RH side.. with Feliz only having 1 year remaining on his current deal (I think)… the Phillies might look at 3b, which would bring Jason Donald back into play as trade-bait this season.

I was thinking the same thing. KRod is still good though. Real good but I feell like our bench late in games can match up with KRod better than Fuentes.

Reliever wise, I think we need to wait to see which teams offer relievers arbitration. Than we;ll know who will cost us a draft pick.

Geoff that’s pretty extreme, Condrey’s far from old and he stepped up enough to think he could hang in there with the Springers and Brocails now. Until Marson (or D’Arnaud) are ready to come up and catch 120+ games then Ruiz is the guy and Coste’s a decent back-up, both guys you’ve mentioned are decent major leaguers now not the pity cases that some still think of them as.

Who would you see beating either of them out?

Farnsworth is a really interesting name, he’s far from his best but he has upside. I like Foulke as a veteran arm but I’d be sceptical he just adjust to middle relief and junk innings. There will be a few good options for a guy who can take some of the slack off Durbin in particular, remember Seanz was a mid-season pick-up and served us well considering so with Condrey stepping up we don’t need to look for Carlos Marmol so much as a guy who knows how to come without it needing to be the 8th or 9th inning to be effective.

condrey is 32/33 and a bottom of the list bullpen option. i would consider upgrading over him. at the very least, he should be the last guy on teh chopping block to start the season, same with coste. theyre the first two regulars who could be beat out or cut.

Id wait on the top three guys there to see if they get offered arbitration, and if they do its an automatic pass. juan cruz is good but not work a supplemental first round pick. Besides, youre supposed to use your first supplemental pick on a reliever who will be ready soon anyway.

I guess farnsworth would be ok, but he seems overpriced. They may have to get Springer or Cruz, because that second tier of guys is ALL garbage trash. Total waste of money.

Our bullpen is fine. Maybe a guy to replace Seanez but that’s it. Guys like Condrey should see a little more action next season…
