Ruben Amaro Jr. will officially be named Phillies general manager Monday, David Murphy reports.
Amaro won the job over fellow Assistant General Manager Mike Arbuckle, who has told President David Montgomery he will leave the Phillies to pursue new opportunities.

Good luck to Ruben, he has as tough a task ahead as you can get but you’d hope he has everything on his side to suceed. Feel bad for Arbuckle, have to wonder how long he’ll have to wait for an opportunity unattached to a club.

You mean Ed Wade Jr.? Just kidding. I am fairly confident Amaro has been pretty much running the show lately anyway.

Ruben Amaro getting the job over Arbuckle make me think. Is it because Amaro is another Ed Wade a yes man with no scouting experience. Arbuckle has been behind the draft and helped put this team together. I think that is why they have the former rays G.M. to steer Amaro the right way. Ed Wade was given credit for this team but he had Arbuckle telling him who to draft. I am trying to think of any great trades he made and can’t. Wade gave away Rolen. Schilling with nothing in return .I trully believe this move will set us back. Scares me to think, after winning a title we get a inexperience G.M. he mostly did contracts like wade did under woodward.

Everybody calm down. We know nothing about Amaro. Give him a chance to settle in the position. Nothing wrong with getting a young, bright person in the lead position. Comparing him to Ed Wade just isn’t fair. I would rather they had chosen Arbuckle also but Amaro isn’t a dope like Ed Wade. Lets see if they sign Howard and Hamels and then we can start evaluating his tenure.

As long as he is focused on young talent, you guys won’t be doomed!

This is not good to let Arbuckle leave, I agree that Amaro deserved the shot since he’s a top candidate for any GM position but Arbuckle has basically put together this teams core through the draft. Scouting all these players and giving Wade, and Gillick the tools on who to draft. I just hope he comes back to be Amaro’s Assistant GM. I’d also like to Gillick be named a consultant to the Phils because his tools should be utilized as long as he’s alive.

AS I PREDICTED LAST MARCH-THE PHILLIES WILL BE THE 2008 WORLD CHAMPIONS-I BELIEVE THAT RUBEN AMARO JR. WILL LEAD US TO ANOTHER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP! HE WILL SPEND THE MONEY OF ONE OF THE RICHEST FRANCHISES IN BASEBALL AND SOCK IT TO THE LOWLY METS AND ALL OF THE OTHER CHUMP BALL CLUBS IN BASEBALL.
GO PHILLIES IN 2009!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN A PHILLIES FAN FOR 49 YEARS!

We should given it to Arbuckle,he’s been here for awhile and is more qualifed IMO,it sucks too see he’s prolly leaving now…I just hope Amaro has learned more from Pat Gillick then he has Ed Wade.
