Make him happy. He strikes me as someone who will play better when happy. Phillies played with him last year, he may get fed up if they keep jerking him around. Tie him up long term, he proved himself this season…..and post season!

6 years 100 million sounds fair to me. If they wait any longer to lock him up, they will be looking at 20+million per season, which basically means they will trade him.

Georgie, I got the very same impression from Amaro’s tone also.

He seems to be going into arbitration control players with the attitude of “They’re our’s regardless, so we can do whatever we want, so suck it!”

I saw that SJ, he said “Cole is under our control for several years”, there was something about Amaro’s attitude I just didn’t like. I’ve never been a big fan of his though, so maybe I’m just reading something into it, but it sounded like they might try to lowball Cole, which would be a BIG mistake.

Amaro was on Daily News Live and he said that Hamels is not one of his “top prioritities.” He cited arbitration years, controlling their contract still, etc. as his reasons.

’11: $12.5
’12: $16
’13: $18
’14: $18
’15: $22 (option $5 Buy Out)

Plus a signing bonus for $5.5 which guarantees him $90 Million.

We might be able to get him for less in ’13-’14 if they give him more in ’09-’11.
He’s definately worth it.

Please, God, no more flaming. Obama got elected and we can’t change that. However, we *can* lock Hamels up and we damn well better do so. Without quality pitching, no team can go anywhere, and he’s the linchpin of the staff. Give the man anything he wants, so we can get what *we* want–Wins!

Hamels had a great season but doesnt have Santana’s past and we’re not the dumbass Mutts. i don’t think he’ll come anwhere cloe to 7/140, 6/95 at the most. We still gotta save some money

what is santana making? 7 years for $140 or so? He has a longer history of winning and staying healthy than Hamels does, but I would suspect Hamels would get something just under that. 6 years for close to 100 sounds to me what he’ll be looking for. Pay the man, pay him now.

As for Hamels, I want him to pitch till he’s Jamie Moyer’s age if possible… But this being his only season where he’s been 100% injury-free, I think 90/6 is too much. Maybe 78/6? In any case, at least we aim for 5 years.

Wow….it’s kind of heated in here.

Phil…..I agree…..great week to be a Philadelphian. Actually, I’m MORE exited about the Phillies winning the World Series than I am about the election……and the election came out just for me.

Observation: Last night one of the networks was making a BIG DEAL about the crowd assembled in Chicago to see Obama. Some thing like a half million they said. I laughed at that given the 1.5-2 million we had for the parade/celebration on Friday. GO PHILLIES!!!!! WORLD F’n CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

I don’t see how you relate my statement to thinking it’s not a great week in Philly. I agree it is a great week for the Phillies and therefore Philadelphia!

This isn’t a political blog, it’s a Phillies blog. There is no reason to talk about politics. You even said it yourself, “I know this isn’t the place for politics, …”. So lets keep it to baseball?
