Jeez, Utley was so much more valuable than Howard it’s ridiculous. Howard is like #10 on the ballot, if that. Utley is top 5 no doubt. Howard can’t field a lick, and Utley is the best or 2nd best 2nd baseman in the game defensively – and I’m a Met fan.

“Publisher HarperCollins announced Monday the word had been chosen from terms suggested by the public for inclusion in the dictionary’s 30th anniversary edition, to be published next year.

The origins of “meh” are murky, but the term grew in popularity after being used in a 2001 episode of “The Simpsons” in which Homer suggests a day trip to his children Bart and Lisa.

“They both just reply ‘meh’ and keep watching TV,” said Cormac McKeown, head of content at Collins Dictionaries.”

Have to say thats the reason the Nats don’t show any signs of being anything other than perrenial botom dwellers, if your in that position you better be a classy organisation top to bottom and the Nats really aren’t. It’s no surprise most of their payroll is consumed by players who can’t take the the field and they get into situations like with Crow because that’s a franchise with a bad attitude and no humilty. Don’t you want your beat writers to be the next Buster Olneys? Aparently not in DC…

I couldnt care less about the MVP award. In years past when thats all we had to hang our hat on then it seemed more important, but now that the Phils are World Champs. Who cares about MVP stuff.

Eh it’s the beginning of winter, and we are nowhere near knowing whether Lou Marson will be on the 2008 team and we haven’t offered Burrell a contract yet.

What else is he supposed to do today?

And I take it a little personally that a writer would leave Howard off his ballot entirely. Manram placed 4th on the strength of essentially 2 good months after all.

on 610 wip this morning.. around 8:00am… they had Seth Everitt?? on and he was saying how basically a writer would leave a guy off a ballot to make a point, etc.. but then why wouldn’t Rich Campbell want to comment when asked about it.

Everitt also made the point that someone left Cal Ripken Jr. off of the Hall of Fame ballot the first year he was up for it…

So for those types of reasons, I would agree with Tim that you really can’t or shouldn’t look too much into these awards, they are a joke… and that is why I was saying that Arbitration and Free Agent contracts are based on the STATS, not on the awards that a guy may have recieved (there is a valid arguement that Carlos Ruiz or Jayson Werth could have been World Series MVP…) but it doesn’t make a difference anyway because its just an award
