Amanda….Hamels should have been 3rd or 4th? Now you are splitting hairs,20 years from now nobody is going to care who came in 2nd for the Cy Young award……Perfect example,what do Thomas Dewey (48),Adlai Stevenson(52/56),Alf Landon(36),Al Smith(28) and John Davis (24) have in common?You probably don’t know nor care but they are a handful of people who ran for president and lost at election time.Nobody remembers or cares who was the runner up let alone 3rd or 4th place.Not trying to be mean,but Brad Lidge deserved more votes than Hamels based on the regular season anyway,closer or not,he did the job above and beyond.

I dont think anybody said Hamels deserved the Cy Young. Lincecum did. Im just saying he should have finished 3rd or 4th, in front of Webb.

I think Webb shouldn’t of even been in contention, i easily see the top three as Santana/Linsecum (either or is fine for first) and Lidge.

Agreed Miner, the people that vote on the Cya are not complete idiots despite what people would have them believe. There were points during the season that Hamels wasn’t even the best pitcher on his own team must less in the national league.

As for Cole Hamels…..yes he earned his reputation in the playoffs,and yet is it me or were most of you guys hanging Hamels out to dry as late as early september after he faltered vs the Mets on that sunday night game saying Hamels wasn’t ready for prime time,and all of a sudden you feel he deserved the Cy Young?Hamels now in my book after the regular season is a formidable pitcher and should have a great 2009 and will win Cy within 3 years but wright now its not his time.

Jim, How was Hamels not top 5 Cy worthy??

Im not counting postseason at all.

3.09 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 227.1 IP, 196 SO. He was better than Webb!! He was a tiny better than Dempster.

Don’t look at wins, thats a team stat.

I’m happy that tuck has some kind of edumacation and can properly structure sentences “(Insert Team Here) sucks”.Wow how original and yet neanderthal.OK now that said,I am shocked that even Webb was in the mix Santana pitched with a lot of grit and could have won 20 games if not for that poison pen we had at Shea.Lincecum with a horrid team and gets the Cya Young is a complete shock,and the “experts” that garner votes should have given more votes for Lidge,however I guess they looked at K-Rod as the gold standard.

Lidge was the Cy Young and the MVP this year. no doubt in my mind. nobody was more dominant, offensively or defensively .

Hamels had an outside shot, he was right near the top in the majority of catagories and his WHIP was insanely low, a handful more runs behind him in some of those no decisions and tough losses and it would have been between him and Lincecum.

Hamels was good this year, but he was hardly Cy worthy. You have to remember that despite popular belief, the ballots are cast just AFTER the regular season, BEFORE the playoffs begin, so his playoff performance was not considered.

Hamels should of finished 3rd. No way Webb should have been that high in votes. Lincecum won, so thats all the matters cause he deserved it.

Kapsich has some head scratchers in that article for sure. I think the big red light should be who is free agent list on there marking Pedro Feliz. Feliz signed a 2 year contract with a 2010 club option.

It may seem like a minor mistake, but he’s writing for the biggest sports media outlet in the country.

Agreed Mike, Santana was dominant all year long, especially in the 2nd half. He probably could have won 24 games if his bullpen didn’t blow it. Even without the “what-if” lines, his numbers are extraordinary.

Robbi P- Klapsich is on crack, there are a number of things that he clearly has no idea waht hes talking about in that article. Not just the Kendrick comment, but also he talks about the possibility of Manny Ramirez in left, which we all know won’t happen

In all honesty I can see this move occurring since Kendrick is still very young and Joe Blanton just had an impressive postseason but my gut is telling me Fat Joe ain’t going anywhere.
