Hey gang – i agree with Jim, I love Coste … a lot, he’s like baseball’s Rocky or us. But Ruiz keeping the team ERA around a run lower than Coste whenever he catches all season long makes me, and it seems like Charlie agrees, think that he is the everyday catcher despite his bat for 2009.

There’s no doubt that Marson has what it takes to get it done, but it’ll take more that a good spring training to prove that for 09. He’s gonna need some viable at bats and if we take coste with us, that’ll be next to impossible until september.

and fyi tim? jaramillo is promounces “hara-mee-yo” (so as not to offend any of our fellow bloggers from latin america)

NEPA- If ruiz can hit .270 that would make him one of the best offensive catchers in the NL. Surprising? Yes, but when we think of catchers we think of I-Rod and Russell Martin. Also, we were all spoiled by Lieberthal hitting 285 and 25 home runs every year. So yeah, I think he can hit around 240-250 which is about average for catchers, there defensive ability far outweighs there offensive. Even if ruiz still hits 220 or lower, I’m fine with him, again becuase of the defensive side. He calls a great game for his pitchers, throws out runners and is a rock behind the plate for wild pitches.

NEPA – I couldn’t agree with you more about Rollins, Utley, and the Catchers.

Coste’s fairy tale is OVER! I love the guy and loved his book, but he’s not a viable option anymore! I think Ruiz is capable of being a .250-.270 hitter though. I think he absolutely has a much better hitting season next year if he can build on the postseason and keep up his confidence. Didn’t he hit well over .300 for a couple years in the minors?

Rollins – Not a chance of him leaving.

Utley – someone tell me how this guy doesn’t get a gold glove but David Wright gets his second? The only thing that could have hurt Utley’s case is the 13 Errors he had, because he’s better than Phillips in every other category. But if the errors hurt Utley, than why not Wright? Kouzmanoff beat him in every statistical category. Gold gloves are starting to become nonsense I think.

Magglio – not worth it. I’m still slightly leaning towards bringing back Burrell, but if we can’t then I think Bradley is the best choice.

Catchers – I think Coste’s little fairy tale has come to an end. Ruiz is the catcher of the present and I think Marson will be the guy getting some starts mixed in by the midway point of next season. If he performs offensively like we hope, and there’s not a big drop in defense/game calling, then Marson should be the starting catcher by the end of the season. Ruiz had a nice postseason, but if his offense reverts back to what it was, it simply kills to many rallies.

Tim – I think you should just change the name to the Nation Minute and a Half. And you seem to like the color pink, a lot. Keep getting this thing up early though, nice to get the day started with something new to watch.
