Chase Utley had successful right hip surgery yesterday. He had an arthroscopic debridement of his labrum and a bony lesion.
The timetables remain consistent with predictions. Four to six months.
It’s likely Utley will return to regular action by April.

glad to hear it went well. Best of luck to him in his recovery. I’m personally really hoping they give Donald a shot. I want to see him in person.

The labrum is a ring of cartilage that circles the hip socket,
Debridement is removal (scraping, basically) of dead/injured/nonhealing tissue,
A bony lesion could be a lot of things, but it sounds like maybe he had some injured bone that wasn’t healing, or else an overgrowth, a spur-type thing.
Hope this helps.

Whether Utley comes back in time to start the season or has to wait until June (nightmare!) the Phils will be fine for a few reasons;
Rollins will resemble his MVP status. Until injured, he was starting to peak in his abilities.
Victorino stays healthy and continues to prove that he is a vital member of this starting team’s success. I think a higher batting average and perhaps more stolen bases will help the Phillies immensely.
Howard has a very good year. Does not have to be as incredible as his MVP year but, high power, consistenly from April will ensure a lock at the end of this high potency lineup.
My particular favorite this year is the chance that Marson has to prove himself. Marson’s emergence last year was an exciting one, the hr was deep and thrilling to come off of a catchers bat made it even more exciting!
Werth, Jenkins & Feliz can have servicable if not terrific seasons but our top 5 need to gel and feel the love.
Adjusting to life without Pat will be made so much easier if our bats are popping. And, lest we forget to stock up on a legit #2 starter behind Hollywood Hamels… Joe has found his home in our hearts and Jamie, well he just has been defying the odds, he has a ring now so who knows?
I stop people in the super markets who are still wearing their Phillies red and ask them if they haven’t had enough yet???
