Matt Kwasiborski- I don’t understand giving the Gm all the glory for draft picks? They probably have little to do with the draft except signning off on teh 1st round pick and ok-ing any over slot signing bonuses. Besides that I feel most GMs probably do little with the draft. Arbuckle and Woelver (spelling) were the real movers and shakers of our drafts.

Still, I agree with you even if Arbuckle leaves why would people leave with them when they might not have a job anywhere else? Plus the Phills just won a WS they can throw some $$$ to these scouts.

I think we are also forgetting Chuck Lamar here who did a fine job in Tampa and now seems to be here and about to do the same.

Plus our draft philosophy really changed last yr as opposed to the previous yrs. Though we still took those “toolsy” guys and too many for my tastes, we took alot of intriguing arms and spent money on players like Cosart we would have never done before.

And as well as Arbuckle might have been, our farm has widely been regarded in the bottom 1/3 of baseball for some time.

Arbuckle would have been a fine choice for GM. And who says he is going to take scouts with him? Where is he going? I am not sure any other teams that have a GM opening right now. And someone has to win and someone had to lose and unfortunately, Arbuckle lost and wasn’t chosen. It is life sometimes. He will find a job, obviously.

Amaro- you must not have been paying attention since 1998 if you didn’t see this coming. Seriously- how could you not have had vision to see this?

I didn’t like what Gillick was doing for much of his time here, I thought the critical moves were reaches instead of paying for value which teams got away with in the mid to late nineties but Gillick put his stamp on this team. It’s easy to critisize decisions but 3 rings and at least 2 playoff trips with every franchise he’s overseen is the mark of the man. I would assume that behind the scenes Amaro has been the true lieutenant to Gillick which is why he’s in line for the gig.

no credit to him from my end. he was a terrible terrible GM. and now we have amaro.

I ended by rewatching some of a game from this season—the final game of the season, after the phillies already clinched.

I wonder if I’ll be looking back at that game again in the future, when I go to study the beginnings of the major league career of promising young prospect Lou Marson.
