Not one of you guys can produce ANYTHNG in writing that shows a long term deal was even offered to Howard, nor can any of you produce anything but HERESAY that he wants A-Rod money. You hear other people say it and it gets parroted. It’s almost reached “urban legend” status. I have looked high and low on numerous occasions to find even a sliver of truth to this notion, and you know what guys, there is NONE.
Howard hasn’t accepted a long term deal…because the Phils have NEVER offered him one. So put up or shut it up people, somebody, ANYBODY produce a link that verifies the $20 million dollar myth. And please stop bashing a guy that had a down year last year. When he starts off hot this year watch everyone jump back on his d!ck.

Regardless, what Howard does next year is key to how he is approached for a long term deal.
Cole Hamels griped when he was given a ‘meager’ $500,000, doesn’t anyone remember? Don’t come down on Ryan Howard but don’t just hand money off to him either. He has some stablization to show..
On the other hand, like I said last night, where would the Phillies be without his services? Who could (or would) be able to replace him in our lineup? We need that big pop at first, that heavy gun – that rbi machine. No one (NO ONE) on the Phillies could fill that void if he were gone now. If the Phils had to replace him, what do you think it would cost?
One more year – give him his 10 mil again this year and next year, if he plays closer to his 06′ showing dig deep and we’ll be happy about it and riding that wave!

you are all idiots complaining about Ryan Howard, there wouldnt have been a parade down Broad St if he didnt carry us down the stretch in September. Almost every champion had a big bopper carry them Albert Pujols, Manny, Big Poppi, or had ridiculous pitching. We dont have ridiculous pitching…we have one lights-out pitcher. I cant believe a guy who runs a Phillies site bashes Howard.

I like Howard, but strikeouts AND fielding percentages kind of wash the HRs and RBIs. Great player – absolutely – top 10 no, but top 20 for sure…

If Howard doesn’t start taking better care of himself, he might never see the 500 homer plateau. He is clearly over-weight and getting by on his awesome strength, but I can see him in the next couple of just losing it. The awesome strength doesn’t mean anything if you can’t catch up to the fastball anymore and I think that is one of the reasons the Phils are worried about locking him up long term for big money.

Barkley only sees black….Always has been. I let Howard play one more year and get rid of him. His age and bat will catch up. He strikes out to much and once the long ball stops he is done. Trade him..

If Howards a potential HOFer then Pedroia is to having both won the world series, ROY and MVPs but Pedroia will have to go a long way to sustain his numbers whereas the 500 plateu will get Howard in regardless of poor supporting numbers.

Phil, Morneau is debatable, but he’s a terrible fielder as well. He’s comparable to Howard (less power, but more contact). Ichiro and Vlad have had HOF careers, but I wouldn’t take them over Howard RIGHT NOW. Career-wise, they are HOFers.

The problem we have is Pujols plays the game to get paid whereas Howard uses his salary number as a status marker, he doesn’t care the number he makes so much as it’s setting record numbers and he isn’t THAT good.
