Chuck, I think certain ballbarks get into players heads, no matter the sport. Eagles kicker David Akers hates Giant Stadium because they leave the doors open and it creates a weird draft. Some players don’t like to play in domes, I’m not saying CBP isn’t a lovely park, but there are certain pitchers who don’t feel comfortable here. We all know pitchers are the biggest head cases of all positions in baseball, right?

Wrigley is a better hitters park than CBP… he’s afraid of the East Coast. Philadelphia is not a bad place to play if you play the game the right way. Peavy is someone that would thrive here.

He’s afraid of CBP but not Wrigley? Listen, the guy can throw… and he hasn’t gotten any run support in five years. That has to drive him nuts! I mean, it has already driven him to the point where he wants out (and it wasn’t too long ago that he signed a 3 year deal before hitting free agency so that he could stay in San Diego). Something happened behind closed doors to get to this point… if the Padres play hardball and say, “It’s either Philadelphia or San Diego.” He might come here. Just a thought.

Chuck, I heard that Peavy is afraid of CBP, that’s why Philly’s on his list of places he won’t go. Even though we won the ws, there are still pitchers who won’t come here because of the small park.

If you want to trump the Mets…a 1-2 punch of Hamels and Peavy would accomplish that and his contract is a good one (3 years 52 million). Without hesitation, he’s been the best pitcher in the NL over the past 5 years. 4 out of the last 5 years he’s had an ERA under 3.00 and better than 170 k’s. He needs to get out of San Diego and get some run support. If we can convince him to waive his NT clause, I would be willing to give the Padres a lot…

Apparently he’s pitched his last game for SD as there are reports the ownership group is cutting salary so he will be traded but it looks like it will fall to the Yanks, Angels, or Dodgers to acquire him unless the Braves renew interest if they fail to sign Burnett

I agree it would take too much to get him, however unless Derosa is going really help this ballclub I dont think we should help a team we may very well contending with next year

well either way this is a win-win for the phillies. if the trade doesnt go through, than happ takes over moyer’s spot and we are free to go after derek lowe. no more than 3 years though. OR, we get derosa, a wonderful club-house leader who can fill in more than aptly at 2nd and a little OF.

At what point do we start thinking about going the extra mile and signing Manny for 3-years, $75 or $80M? Esp. if Lowe is taken. I want nothing to do with burnett or pettitte. I firmly believe the yanks will get sheets at 2 years, $30M. IF sheets is available, lets get him for 2 years, and when he gets injured, carrasco can come up and fill in.

they should explore other trade options for a 2/3 starter….im scared off of peavy…please everyone go and look at the home/road splits like griffin did…its not pretty…hed bea good number three starter in CBP if he could keep his era under 4..but ii dont really know that he can..

yeah, Peavy’s home/road splits are pretty significant and it’d take most of our top prospect to get him. The Cubs were going to give up Vitters who is better than anything we have. Overall, I think it’d take too much to get him, whereas with Derek Lowe, it’d just take money (but maybe too much money).

yeah screw the cubs…im not a huge peavy fan though…i think hes going to come abck to earth when he leaves san diego..his road ERA is over 4…i wouldnt give up carrasco or donald for him…or marson either…

i hate all these denials and back and forths…hey hendry: we know theres a deal, dotn be an a$$ and act like it doesnt exist…if the deals dead then say its dead..but dont act like its a national security secret…i hate it when prosports teams act like theyre the cia and refuse to talk about trades…maybe evejn making them “secret trades”
