Peavy/DeRosa Trade: Reports Indicate It’s Close

UPDATE (1:46 p.m.): ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports a deal fthat would send Jake Peavy to Chicago and Mark DeRosa to the Phillies is very close to finished.
From Rotowire:
The main parts of the trade would have Peavy going to the Cubs, while the Northsiders would send Jason Marquis, Kevin Hart and Josh Vitters, one of the Cubs’ top prospects, to the Padres. The Phillies would get Mark DeRosa. There is no clear indication whom the Phillies would part with in this trade. Part of the deal would also include the Cubs paying for part of Marquis’s salary.
***
Before the new round of updates, here’s where we stand:
- A multi-team deal that would send Jake Peavy to the Cubs and a slew of players to the Padres remains in stalemate. The Phillies have confirmed a deal is in the works, and rumors had them close to acquiring Mark DeRosa for prospects (JA Happ, Kyle Kendrick or Jason Jaramillo). Most recent rumors admit DeRosa may not be the player the Phils want.
Now, according to La Velle Neal, the Twins are asking about DeRosa. The Cubs will give the Twins a list of pitchers they’d want (who would go to the Padres).

Rooftops are $16, except between May2 5th-September 3rd.. when kids are out of school the tickets are then $18
Upper Deck OF are $18, Upper Deck Infield are $24
Lower Level OF are $30 (used to be $22 I think)
Lower Level IF are $60
if you have a season ticket plan you save like $0.75 on your tickets.. almost enough for a Dollar Dog, when I’m sure the tickets are jacked up for those nights too

I did the math on my Sunday plan and it works out to $26.71 a ticket…but there’s a service charge included so I think it’s $26, until summer rolls around then gets hiked to 30 but season tickets cost the lower amount throughout the year

ah you beat me to it….either way I miss the $8 700 level seats at the Vet…then you could just move down later in the game. But they’re only going to get more expensive from here on out

only kidding.. its all good.
I just never know what my schedule is like.. and if weather is nice on a weekend, id rather shoot down the shore, then stay up here because I have Phillies-Nationals tickets or something.
So I usually just pick out random games I want to go to.. and end up at 10-15 a year.. And EVERY year I think about getting a 17-game plan but I never do it because my uncle has one and can’t always sell the games that he can’t make..

How about this for a left field replacement… 4 years, $60 million for Adam Dunn. We were paying Pat $14 million. I know that’s a slim to none prospect and he bats lefthanded so he might have to bat 6th (imagine that) but it would be fun to watch, wouldn’t it? And if Howard leaves, he moves to first. That’s what I call a contingency plan… and you wouldn’t mind paying $16 to sit on the rooftop because there would be balls flying out there every night!
Depending on which season ticket plan you buy, you can’t get tix for dollar dog days…

I have mixed feeling on Dunn. He’s a left-handed Burrell. Terrible defender, strikes out a ton, but does walk a lot and has serious power. He’s much better than any of the cheaper platoon options available though.

Howard with Dunn behind him would provide one hell of a breeze on those hot summer nights.. all those swings and misses.. it would really be something!

That’s how I was too until two years ago, when my buddy’s girlfriend wanted to get him the sunday plan for christmas so I got in on it. It’s a nice way to end the weekend…but you find yourself planning around it, and I’ve ended many a shore weekends for the sunday Phil’s game much to the annoyance of my girlfriend

Don maybe the Braves would send us Francour as well to extend McCann’s career, they could send him out with a deck chair and cosmoplitan… Even with that beard

To all those who say, who cares if it seems that we’re helping the Cubs, I agree. That Peavy deal is getting done come hell or high water…or whether we’re in it or not. You think the Padres are going to nix a deal they’ve been sweating for 2 months because they really, really want JA Happ?
If it is indeed DeRosa…I’m pleasantly surprised by DeRosa’s 2008 numbers, obviously his best power year ever, 21 HRs, 87 RBIs (for comparison’s sake Burrell 33 and 86), .857 OPS (.821 over last three years), compared to Burrell’s .874 (.889 over last three years). DeRosa hits for better average; Burrell has better power and walks more. Both strike out (though DeRosa somewhat less). DeRosa obviously adds defensive versatility, which is a really nice plus with Utley being out. All that for exactly one-third of Burrell’s salary. Not the same player, but DeRosa is arguably the much better value than a player like Burrell, and that’s a good thing. This is a good player. His offensive stats are actually pretty similar to Victorino’s without the steals. He’s also a far better version of Bruntlett (though Bruntlett only makes $600K), but maybe without Bruntlett’s speed.
The concern has to be getting somewhat pitching-thin, though Rube says pitching is his priority. Without Lowe or Moyer, where does that leave us? It kinda forces us to look at Garland, Looper, etc. Preferring Happ or even Kendrick to $10M for Garland is a valid argument.
Another potential downside to this, as I see it, is that we only have so many trade pieces, so do we use one or two now for DeRosa? Or do we step back and try to put something together for someone like Ryan Ludwick? Or maybe Jeremy Hermida? All said, I really can’t argue with getting DeRosa. I also can’t argue with Chuck P and the war cry to do more this off-season than talk to Lowe and re-sign Moyer. Braves and Mets will be better. Never been a fan of Dunn though.

Pat Burrell for Philly in 2009: 30 90 .280
DeRosa 15 40 .285 in left field
Jenkins 20 65 .270
So whats the problem. Don’t you people understand that an effective platoon is very often more effective than one gut in that position. Plus, it gives you an extra guy for the bench. PLUS, it gives you better D. Burrell is…not…that…good. I want Delmon Young, though.

What’s it going to cost to land Ibanez who by all accounts really wants to be in Phill. I know he’s lefty, but he bats as good against lefties as Derosa and much better against righties. More pop in his bat as well. Use Kendrick or Happ to get other players, IMO.

Just read this as well:
Gordon Edes agrees, Lowe is not on the verge of signing. He does have offers in hand from the Yanks and Phillies, with the Mets and Red Sox in talks. The Brewers made contact but are considered a long shot. Edes says Lowe’s desire to return to Boston has been overstated. Edes says the two offers are in the four-year, $65MM range, and a fifth year could clinch it.
that’s a lot of money for Lowe…..

Dispy, Derosa only hit more than 13 homers once in his entire career. If he reverts to normal you could count on him for about 6 or 7 dingers against Lefties. That’s not what the Phillies need.

DeRosa doesn’t have reliable power, that’s true, but it’s not all about home runs. (I would question Jenkins hitting 20 next year as well.) If we absolutely need 25+ homers out of LF, we’d be better off with trying Juan Rivera. Ibanez may not even guarantee you 25 dingers.
Crazy as it sounds, if we miss out on Lowe, I would consider matching LA’s 2-year offer (now withdrawn) to Manny. You want to protect Ryan Howard….?

Boras won’t let Manny sign for less than $100 million. IF the Red Sox sign Texiera, the Angels will pony up for Manny.

this is a little off topic but Jayson Stark is now reporting that the Phillies aren’t pursuing Lowe anymore. I can’t take all this rumor mongering….I’m only getting my news from Phillies.com press releases from now on

Dipsy, Derosa’s HRs the last 3 years are 13, 10, 21 in 500+ AB’s each year. Last year he actually had more power against righties. 1 dinger every 23 ABs against righties, 1 dinger every 29 AB’s against lefties. Nice average though. Pat was one every 22 against lefties, 1 every 15 against righties(monster number).
The problem for me is I don’t have confidence that A) Werth can stay healthy and B) he can hit righties well enough. We may need Jenkins to play RF against Righties.
Now, If we make this deal, I’d be OK if we then sign Ibanez and dump Bruntlett. If the players could handle their new roles it could really work out nice. It depends on what Ibanez would cost.

CSN just reported the phils have interest in LHP John Parrish, dunno what for, maybe to be a backup option to play at Lehigh incase something happens in the bullpen or rotation.
Jayson Stark reporting that the Phils haven’t offered Lowe a deal yet on CSN Jon Heyman said that the Phils did offer a contract whos telling the truth exactly?

CSN just reported that the word around the meetings is that Burrell is no longer able to play LF, and his batting numbers are inflated due to playing in “the bandbox”, which isn’t true because he had more HR’s on the road this year. They figure he will go for 6-8M, and he his the Angels back-up, back-up plan, pretty disappointing for P the B.

Steve phillips reported a story on a trade and david murphy picked it up. The dumbest story That I ever heard. phillies will send Donald and either Carrasco or Happ to Cubs for utility infielder Mark De Rosa. If Amaro would do that then he is the next Ed wade.

The Phils better not make this trade. The amount of young talent they have is thin as it is. It would be their suicide note if they followed through with this.

Eric Patterson’s meant to be a pretty decent young player and the A’s are deep in the middle of the infield.
