Phils Meet With Punto; Young Rumors Far-Fetched?

John Finger of Comcast SportsNet is reporting that the Phillies met with utility player Nick Punto today.
Also, La Velle Neal III thinks the Phillies won’t offer Jason Donald for Delmon Young, since Donald is in line as a contingency plan for Chase Utley and/or Pedro Feliz.
I ask this, however — doesn’t Punto sound like a contingency plan for Utley and/or Feliz? Wouldn’t signing Punto mean Donald is much more available as a trading chip? Just a thought, not that I think trading Donald is a great idea. Neal did say the Phils and Twins don’t plan to meet about Young, and they haven’t spoken yet.

I don’t know that Neal’s report means the rumors are far-fetched; if it takes Donald plus pitching to get Young Amaro’s probably weighing his options. It does sound like the Twins’ price is higher than I might have hoped.
As for the Peavy rumor, why on earth would we help the Cubs set up the best rotation in baseball to get a single-A prospect and a utility infielder with an OPS+ of 55(!) at the cost of as-yet-undisclosed “young pitching”? Wherever that rumor came from I sincerely hope it’s inaccurate – either make a deal with the Padres straight up for Peavy or trade one of the young pitchers and Donald for Young.

Would I love vitters he is a 5 tool third basemen. I guess they want donald Carrasco and ,Drabek to san diego and we get vitters and some other cub prospect and peavy goes to chicago.

I reported the phillies meeting punto at burger king. At three today. The phillies had coupons for chicken tenders and a coke for 2.99. Meanwhile the mets were eating steaks with k rod. we don’t need no left fielder add any cheap player and a cheap sub, and a older washup reliever like springer and we will win. Ask the people on here they think were in nomatter who we lose or what we add. unbelievable.

My cousin Hector works in Vegas he said the phillies did meet with the agent for punto. The agent asked direction to the rooms of teams. that were willing to spend some money to win. Bill Giles said skip room 1120 we are the champs and don’t have to spend money. Our fans can wait until 2036 to win

I am against taking Delmon Young. End of statement.
Nick Punto now, I would be willing to trade Coste or happ there and NOT give the Cubs Peavy.
