hey guys i’m from the twins blogs just to help you with a opinion from a different team

1) young was not a problem at all last year in fact he was very quiet.

2)most twins fans don’t want the twins to trade young unless we get a infielder that has as much talent as young like possibly hardy

4)even less fans want to trade young for a prospect

5) donald is interesting but you would need to add in somewhat more

6) now cuddyer is available we could give you cuddyer and players like buscher humber mulvey

Well, Pete, what I’m saying is that things change a lot in a season. The economy will be worse in 2009 than in 2008. There will still be plenty of relievers in the market and no one will be willing to give a lot of money (your 12-14M estimate) to a bullpen guy like Madson.

And Boras is probably the only human being who buys that Rivera-Madson comparison. You can try and sell high, but people have to be either stupid or ill-informed to go along and buy into his Rivera argument.

It’s not that I’m eager to trade Madson, but I’d rather get something for him and find another way to fill the setup role than watch him walk at the end of the year. There is absolutely NO WAY that he signs an extension here unless the Phillies are willing to pay him 12-14MM per year, and they don’t have the payroll to give a setup man that kind of cash. Boras and the Phils do not mix well, and Boras has explicitly compared the Lidge/Madson duo to Wetteland/Rivera in preparation for Madson’s FA years. Madson has said the free agency is something he’s waited a long time for. He will not be in red pinstripes after 2009.

Hey Griffin, Young made $1,440,000 in 2008, I don’t know where you got your information. I would make this deal in a second. I think he has a huge upside if he can keep his head on straight, and with a player’s manager like Uncle Charlie and a great core of young vets with a great work ethic, this might be the place for him to mature and flourish.

You guys think that Madson is at its peak… I think he has more to offer. We finally have one of the best setup guys in the game and it just amazes me how some here would be so eager to trade him.

And, even though the Scott Boras argument makes a lot of sense, things change throughout a season and the possibility of a long term deal with Madson is being explored by the GM.

So don’t count him out just yet.

That said, the trade for Young is still very interesting, but we cannot give up guys like Madson or Romero. Pitching (especially bullpen) won us this thing. I’d be much more willing to let Happ or Kendrick go, but I doubt that they want them.

Hmm…Ill be ok with it if they add to the deal. add brett myers and a prospect (if needed) to donald and then to young, you get minnesota to add scott baker. ill do that….

To all of those who keep calling Delmon Young a headcase – remember back in 2004 when Hamels got into a fight and had to have hand surgery because of it? Everyone thought he was immature and an idiot. Which he was! But young kids make a mistake. Lets not kill Young for a mistake he made when he was 20 years old.

And yes, I would do Donald for Young in a heartbeat.

We can not trade for young its a bad idea the guy is talented but a idiot. We do not need that after a great season use donald to get some body else. Young never hustles and it will be his third in 3 years somethings wrong there.

i think wood is asking too much. i heard he’s looking for 3-years, about $30M. way too much for a set-up guy with injury problems. it could get too costly. i believe he will only receive about $7-8M per, though. k-rod sets the market and it doesnt seem that he’ll be getting his $15M per.

Madson was huge for us down the stretch and from September on pitched as well as he ever has. But like Chuck said, he’s gone after this year – the Phils are already stretching payroll, and even given that money comes off the books after ’09, they are not going to pay Madson closer money to be a set-up man (and Madson will be signed to be a closer somewhere).

The only way the scenario changes is if Lidge suffers some kind of career-ending injury (God forbid). Otherwise, he’s our closer through 2011 and there just isn’t a place for Madson. Madson’s trade value is never going to be higher than it is right now, so I’d love to flip him (and others) for Young if the Twins were interested.

Madson is gone… I don’t see where he fits in. He could be a closer somewhere (not here). He didn’t pan out as a starter… he’s a middle reliever for us and unfortunately he’s going to be looking for closer money.

Manny, Madson is a free agent after 2009 and Scott Boras is his agent. Boras compares him to Mariano Rivera!?!!? Lidge is signed for 3 more years which means he’ll be here two years after Madson leaves.
Madson is very good though and I was thinking of getting his jersey too (before Boras made those comments).

I would NOT trade him for a guy like Madson. Madson is improving very quickly. Remember the 96mph / 97 mph pitches late in the season and postseason? He could also be our closer if/when Lidge leaves. Keeping him is crucial. So crucial that I ordered a jersey with his name on the back.

Wood in the 8th, would be awesome. I realize he’s a health risk, but let’s not make Madson out to be Mr. durability.
Would the Twins accept Madson and Donald for Delmon?
If so, then we could sign Wood and Lowe.
