LMFAO. I love them, but the hall is for the real goods ones. Among the roster I’d say Utley and Hamels. It’s more like Cole and Utley as realistic shots, Moyer, Burrell, Howard and Rollins as glimmers of hope and everyone else as no chance in hell.

I would make Utley’s shot at a much lower number. Knowing what we know about Utley, the only thing holding him back from the HOF is potential injury. So assuming he is as good as we all know he is and will continue to be, he is a 3 to 1 shot. The injury concern is a possibility although Utley is a gamer and will play through pain so it would need to be a severe injury for him to stop. He is hard nosed and has the potential to be hurt each game so I would set the final odds at 6 to 1….still a steal.

Utley and Rollins will make it. Howard if he keeps hitting, and Lidge has a better shot than you think. A perfect season, one of the best closers in baseball in the last few years. Hes got a better shot then people are giving him.

I would say Utley has the best chance. If he keeps it up, he could have the best hitting stats of any second baseman ever to play. And while his glove isn’t the best, it certainly is very solid.

Dude i think your smoking crack… your so called small glimmer of hope column, yeah they dont have a shot in hell… neither does Burrell, Moyer, or Lidge. Hamels has a long, long ways to go, Rollins is a great player but i dont think of him as a hall of fame player. Howard has a chance but he needs to keep hitting homerun after homerun because he doesnt bring anything else to the table i.e speed or defense. The only sure fire future hall of famer is Chase Utley.

I don’t like these discussions because so many things can happen. Other than Jamie Moyer (who won’t get in… and I’m from Souderton so I am obviuosly biased), you can’t possibly predict the kinds of careers that these players will have. Cole Hamels is 24… how can you even mention him in the same breath with other HOF’ers? I mean, Roger Maris isn’t in the Hall of Fame and he had two MVP trophies and hit 61 HR in a season by the age of 26! I’m sure that everyone thought that he was a lock… it takes a career of what these guys have only done for a few years.

I’d rank Rollins chances as 4th on the team, behind Utley, Hamels, and Howard. With Rollins being such a speed and defense guy, I think his “true prime” is probably about 27-32, so he’s not entering it right now, he’s well into it. Utley is practically a shoe-in and Hamels just needs to stay healthy, which is far from guarunteed, unfortunately. As for Howard, people will criticize him and he got a late start in the bigs, but with an MVP, a 2nd place MVP, and a Rookie of the Year in 4 big league seasons, that has HOF written all over it.

I would set Burrell’s odds longer than 49 -1, as I don’t think Burrell gets in even if he hits 500 homers. By the time he is eligible, the 500 homer club will be even more diluted, and his batting average is just too low to get in. He would have to become a tremendous contact hitter over the next few years and raise that average big time to be able to offset where he is at after 9 seasons, which is .257.

Harmon Killebrew got in with a low average (.256) but he had 573 dingers.

I think your “small glimmer of hope” category should include only Burrell and Moyer…those others have no shot whatsoever.

I think Hamels (most talent) and Utley (most dominant at his position as compared to his peers) have the best shot, as long as they keep on keepin on.
