I for one would LOVE to see Andy Pettitte in a Phils uniform. When they were rumored to be going after him a couple of years back, I was really excited by the idea, and I still am. Even though he’s getting older, he’s still younger than Lowe and might come cheaper since he’s coming off a lousy year. He still has one of the best pickoff moves in baseball, if not THE best, and he’s just a hard-working guy. I’d love to see him playing with the Phillies.

The yanks are def going after Lowe hard even though they just signed CC. I wouldnt be surprised if they sign Lowe and then target Sheets and sign him. Phillies need to make a move fast and flash some money or something becuase it seems like other teams are tryin to get the gys the phils want and will be willing to give up more .

I’ll pass on Ibanez… would rather take a flyer on Rivera. DeRosa would be nice but I’m not ecstatic. It doesn’t really fill any holes and it makes the Cubs much better (and bolsters the Padres farm). We end up with the short straw here. Everyone has kind of written off Andy Pettite… if no one else wants him and if he’s willing to take a serious paycut, should we be talking about him? Yes, he had his worst year as a professional last year… understandably so amidst all of the distractions (he lost his best friend, the respect of some of his colleagues and will have a huge black mark beside his name forever)… admitting that he took HGH hurt his cred but at least he admitted it. He’s 36 years old so he’s younger than some of the other guys on our list (Lowe is 37 and Moyer will be filing for Medicare). He might come cheap…

Regarding Burrell, Leslie Gudel and Paul Hagen, who are reporting from LV for csn, both said yesterday that they have not heard Pat’s name mentioned AT ALL, by anybody. They said every FA’s name has been batted around(ha) except for Pat. I’m wondering if maybe he will be coming back here for a little less if there’s no interest in him from other teams?

I really hope Sabathia just goes with the Yankees so they drop the pressure on getting Lowe.

The Yanks wont go past their comfort zone with Lowe or Burnett with Sheets in place for 2 years if Sabathia does sign. The wildcard right now is the Mets as they’ve addressed their primary issue and could turn their attention to Lowe.

I have to admit I’m not jazzed about the idea of Ibanez because of his compensation status, it’s not flashy but I’ve really come around to the idea of Rivera of a low-cost decent option. Outside of Lowe (or Sheets) I hope we stay away from tendered free-agents and concentrate on getting the next wave of Phillies up to the big club even if it’s just gaining ammunition for trade as the Sox did with guys like Moss and Hansen.

As for DeRosa aparently we weren’t expecting him in a Peavy deal but irreguardless it looks like it’s falling apart.

I’m starting to really enjoy these winter meetings. It seems as if finally some players actually like the idea of becoming a Phillie.

Could you imagine how pissed of the Mets would be if we landed Ibanez and Lowe? Those two instantly improve our team right away.

Now that is how you put your “stamp” on a team, Ruben.

Ibanez would fill the Burrell void nicely. Derosa can play anywhere on the field which is a great chip to have. Happ pitched well and has good promise but with the addition of Lowe there would be no room for him in this rotation. Keep being agressive Phils!

With CC now almost all but official to the Yanks, do you guys think that changes the Yanks pursuit of Lowe. Reports were that the Yanks were more or less boosting his price, but now that they have CC will they back off? thoughts?
