Lee Meadows
Starting Pitcher

Career w/Phillies: 857 IP / 48-61 / 3.64 ERA / 307 K
“Specs” Meadows wore glasses on the field, thus his nickname. He also had his best years with the Pirates, winning 19 games three times. With the Phillies, he did win 16 games once, and more than 10 three times. Meadows sadly wasn’t a very good control pitcher, walking as many hitters as he struck out, and hitting 30 batters with the Phils.
Comment: Another case of a deceiving record, Meadows was on some bad teams. He gave up little in the way of runs, and always pitched a lot — pitching more than 230 times three times with the Phils. An under-appreciated arm.

i’m curious to see how he’s going to fit so many players from the 80 and 08 teams in still as spots run out, not to mention 93. i have no problems including olders players but there are still a lot of great phillies that need their due.

Jeff, try to open your mind a little bit, just because they played long ago and you don’t remember them doesn’t mean they weren’t great players. Jeez, thank God everyone doesn’t have that attitude, there’d be no such thing as history.

Jeff….as you don’t care about this list,just about everyone who looks at this page is basically saying that they don’t care what YOU think.I am a Mets fan and do find this list intriguing and wonder when of if Matt Cerrone and Metsblog.com are going to do a similar list.Oh well.If you don’t like how this page is run,than by all means,make your OWN fan page.Give em HELL Tim.

Maybe not the history of my Amazins,but it is history nonetheless.Sometimes you have to look up the history of other teams and their background to get a better understanding and open up your mind.Thats what not only helps you understand the game but the passion that you posess and look back to your baseball heroes past no matter what team you root for and were your first impressions of the game.As for schooling anyone,it wasn’t my intention.I just hate when someone comes in here,opens their mouth and says nothing like jeff did.I hate when fellow METS fans do it as well.BTW tim…..where do you rank Length Dykstra and Roger McDowell.

Interesting to note, “Specs” wife was name Kimberly and Lee Meadows was arrested in 1920 by Philadelphia City Police for maritual abuse.
