Coming Next Week: Nation Sessions

To be short, last weekend I stumbled upon beer paradise. Boasting a large selection of beer (and a sign upon entering that says “Warning: This place is known to becoming addicting”), Half Time in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., raised expectations by appearance alone. But boy, did it deliver.
Thirty minutes after entering Half Time, I exited with the $20 St. Bernardus gift pack (its four standards and St. Bernardus-brand snifter!) and a variety six-pack of collected stouts from the aisles. Purchase well made. And purchase spawning a new feature: Nation Sessions.
I’ll present six different beers, all with a common theme, and review them. It’s like six Phillies games at once!
Now, I’m debating whether this should be weekly or every two weeks. I mean, it’s not like I have an endless wallet and liver. So if you have thoughts, let me know.
Also, I will use this space to shamelessly plug Half Time, simply because when I walked inside my jaw dropped. If anyone is in the Poughkeepsie area (and how could you not be?), go there.

I went to college in Po-town (Vassar) and even I have to ask what you were doing there. But seriously, Half time spoiled me in college. There’s no way to find a selection like that anywhere else. I’m glad the word is spreading.

I live a few miles from Poughkeepsie. Don’t be talking no smack about my new home, now.

I have never seen a group of people like New Yorkers who constantly butcher our language.

I like this idea. After attending beerfest for the first time in AC last year, I’ve enjoyed trying different varieties of beer. I would find it very useful.

If anyone is looking for a good takout spot closer to home… Michael’s Deli in King of Prussia has a great selection of six packs. Grab a sandwich while you’re at it… well worth it.
Tim, you should tell us which beer you will be reviewing ahead of time… that would give us a chance to discuss (and it gives me an excuse to buy more beer).

Blue Dog in Lansdale has a decent selection but not as good as Michaels.

Yea, Tim. I don’t you to get too drunk doing these “reports” and end up slacking off.

Touche, Manny. But I will admit some of these posts have been written in various states of intoxication.

For the folks in Philly, the Foodery has a pretty decent selection. And I hate to break it, but the Philly area does have the best selection for beers. Yes, Michaels is good, and the northeast has the six pack store (kinda shitty looking from the outside, but decent selection, not great, but ok for the location). I love new good beers.

Tim – you’re in DC aren’t you? You’ve been to the Briskskeller I assume:

Agreed on the Michael’s selection, I was just there the other day but I will say the place is rather $$$ but not being able to get sixers at the liquor store kind of causes that problem itself.
